Regular readers might now that I'm not exactly a fan of stance, yet I have to admit that this 1959 Chevy looks just right.

Something to be said about lead sleds.

Well, that's just low. Stupid "stance" cars have a lot wrong with them, a bagged car can just be lowered really low or raised up to move. My biggest issue with "stanced" cars are the terribly unsafe tire to wheel matches, and the utterly ruining vehicles with worthless camber.

Low ride height that is under the user's control > any moronic fixed "stance" with altered camber. Plus, there is a significant element leading to such cars looking better that way than a modern one - long swept lines meant to evoke aircraft and to minimize the visual aspects of wheels. When lowered, they look sweeping, even longer, and majestic (usually). There is a good reason such cars were often equipped with fender skirts and that some others were designed with some measure of closing over the front wheels.
In contrast, something with significant flaring near the wheels is a study in opposites when the wheels are minimized, pushed back into the bodywork, and tucked away. It can only work if the wheels happen to meet the fender exactly, otherwise often looks terrible.

The whole idea behind "hellaflush" is to have the wheels meet the fender perfectly. Hence, "flush."

Yes, that's the idea. Very often not grasped nor executed by its practitioners very well. And when it's a wheel with significant offset, the effect even when flush on a car with wheel flares is of a boil with a cavity in the middle where one's wheel should be. No me gusta.

I agree. I also DETEST the stretched tire look. :|
