So I am on a bit of a budget for wheels

So buying Gram Lights are probably not going to happen, which is no big deal to be honest. I would have been too worried about damaging them while driving them around. So I am getting something cheaper. Rotas, Enkei, and such.

Friends don't let friends roll on Rotas.

I have heard the quality is actually pretty good as compared to before. People track the car on Rotas all the time. Plus they do look good.

And they break. Don't cheap out on parts that your life depends on.

One of the most popular Subie wheels here in Colorado and I've yet to hear of someone having a problem.

Rota's aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be. They're far from the best, but I doubt that you want to splurge on some volks. If you're DDing, you should be fine. Try looking around some forums (cars that have the same bolt pattern as you), and see if you can buy some second hand gram lights off someone in your area.

I'd go with Hot Wheels. That way when you crash the rims break and you don't flip or anything.

I think that was back in the day, people seem to love them now. Don't worry, I will definitely do some searching of the webs before making a decision. Enkei is always an option and make affordable wheels that last.

I am not worried about DD duties, but more for autocross and the occasional track day. Although, I think a smooth track is less strain than Indiana roads.

It will mostly be for DD, but also the monthly/biweekly autocross and the occasional track day.

Sadly, the problem with Gram Lights is that no one seems to buy them in the size I want. It is always 18s and never 17s.

Hit a curb/sidewalk/pole sideways at roughly 40mph. Old car and old news, but the rims being so cheap and breaking might of actually helped me to stay out of the hospital.

Not to sound to cool for school but I actually drifted it all the time, so I had that particular night coming. But I got quoted $900 just for used parts to fix it, and seeing how I paid $1500 for it 2 years earlier I just sold it for 500 bucks.

Kinja'd!!!

I do still miss having a beater, it was a ton of fun.

This got waaayyy off topic, my point was cheap rims aren't always bad.

I wouldn't be all that worried then. I might look to something lighter for track duty myself but the Grid's certainly do look good.

Why don't you keep your present setup a while longer while you put together the money for the wheels you originally wanted?

I only say this because in my case, whenever I really want something but get something else as an alternative, I still want the original thing.

It is more about saving money than anything, I can make the dough soon but I still don't want to spend 1600+ on wheels. I still want the Gram Lights, but they are super rare in the size I want(alteast in America, I could only find 10 sets in the bolt pattern/size). There is a bit of fear about scratches and stuff.

Those would probably make for a damn good track wheel. I know a lot of guys run Rota gravel's as a track/DD wheel on a lot of STI's out here, they're a bit of the heavy side though. Closer to 23lbs

Was it like you went to drift events and showed them your skills, or was it around town? I would have fixed the car up, just cause I probably would have grown attached to it. This has the 1UZ correct?

Around town, but before your someone else yells at me, I did it in empty parts of an empty town aka Detroit. While it would be nice to have it still, I like having the heat/radio thats in my current car. But yea 1UZ … did the same mod as this guy … miss that noise, #Memories.

I think the 17s limit your options. I would vote Enkei, either the RPf1 or NT03

Kinja'd!!!

I would also look into 5x114 adapters so it opens your selections. Tire Rack's TR Motorsports are popular auto x wheels

You didn't brake them the guy before you did, and it was from being an idiot and sliding into a curb. I WOULD recommend XXR's just from the sheer amount of drift cars that use them. for example: S13.5 LS6 drift car with XXR 527's

Second set cracked, the first set was completely cracked in half, second set cracked on the inside face where the bolts mounted up, Kurt wasn't happy about that.

dude your making it sound like you've had 2 sets of rims, that means you've had a total of 8 rims crack on you, which was all of them you got with the car

I had 10. 4 17's, 6 16's.

One 16 was cracked when I got it, the really bad one. The other two 16's were replacement rears that Tom bought when I got the car and Kurt said they were both cracked after he took them off.
