You get to Pull-A-Part and see a Mustang with the taillights you want. You rush over and check the interior for the key because you know from experience that the trunk release is electronic and utter bullshit. You find it in the glove box, exit the car, close the door, and remember that you sold your Mustang months ago. You don't know how you could have possibly forgotten this, but somehow you did.

You also find a Ford Focus with a stock spoiler in the right color for your dad's, but that car has been gone even longer. At least you could remember that one.

Maybe it's just that you wasted probably $15 in admission fees to visit the lot every time a new foxbody came in, and on each occasion the taillights were identical to yours, cracked, or painted over by careless employees. The convertibles always had the plastic window you hated so much or the glass one was cracked. The sportier rims were dented, broken, or found in sets of three or less. That one insignificant piece of interior trim you wanted was missing every single time the interior of the car was red, and always present when it was black or anything else. Maybe that's why you got excited to finally find just one of the things you wanted. Or maybe you're just crazy.

That's when you backfeed power through the fuse panel... Just sayin'

Lack of resources, mainly. In any case it's still simpler to use the key, assuming it can be found.

All you need is a battery and connect the negative to the body, cram a stiff wire into the appropriate fuse connected to the positive side. Once scored a new set of powered seats for $20 that would have gone for 100ish because the junkyard owner was convinced the bolts couldn't be accessed because the engine had already been removed and the key would not put power to the system.

The Kinja'd preview for this post was perfect. I nearly did a spit-take right as I was clicking your link.

$15 for a pick and pull? They must have some really premo-cars in there.

Sorry, I should have been more clear there. I meant $15 total after 15 visits at a buck each.
