Given enough time, Ferrari will build a SUV. Porsche is already there with two, Bentley and Maserati are getting on board and even RR is considering it. The big challenge will be building and marketing it cheap enough so that every second wife in Newport Beach can have one, but expensive enough to make it stand out as a Ferrari.

So true! An impossible challenge. The SUV couldn't be over $100K for every second wife in Newport to have one. But if it's under $100K they'll sell too many and lose their exclusivity.

Porsche doesn't have that issue. They don't really care about exclusivity. I was talking to a guy I know that is a salesman for the Newport Porsche/Audi/Bentley dealer over the weekend. He said he gets tons of calls about the Macan every day. Porsche is going to sell a zillion of them.

Exactly, the only reason to build a SUV would be to go after a larger volume market. Volume means less exclusivity. Porsche gave up their brand exclusivity for $$, and I'm sure you also see a few Cayennes a day driving around. I mean, it starts around $50k and has 240 hp base engine. That's not fast or exclusive at all!

Everyone is losing their core values and chasing volume. BMW was supposed to make rwd and awd cars, with Mini taking up the small, premium fwd segment. Now Mini has a expensive(for what you get), awd SUV and BMW is planning small, premium fwd cars.

You can buy Ferraris for $50k, but they aren't the most desirable models.
