Turns out an effective solution is to simply double the gaskets on one side of the headers. A few people have done this, and have run the car hard after that. It clears it no problem. As it sits now the header touches the outer edge of the pan close to the bolts.

I was really quiet and worried today. Now I am only slightly worried, and fairly talkative now(family thought I was having lady problems cause of how much I was not talking). I really want to add some heat shielding to the pan. The headers aren't close except for one of the runners, even then it isn't as close as stock(which was pretty much right next to the pan). I know the HKS headers came with one cause they passed right next to the pan, some people ran without it no problems, but I always want to be safe rather than sorry.

I know this is old...but I recalled seeing your other post and searched to see if you found a resolution...

I wouldn't double the gaskets. That's asking for future trouble a year or two down the road...

I would not accept paying for a product with a design defect. Plus, when they revise it to correct the issue, your headers are now less valuable to resell later because you have the old defective part. Is this really being accepted by the community as ok? I don't know anything about them, but are these considered 'budget' headers, or low end? I guess that might change my opinion a little...but I would still hate paying for a sub par product.

Haha, thanks for the input. I trolled some forums, and people doubled gaskets to prevent exhaust leaks. I guess it is a method that doesn't last.

Good news though, JDL said that they are willing to replace the header no problemo! Hurray! The headers weren't low budget but they weren't high end ones either. I got them for about 800 bucks, which is right inbetween the low end(600) and the high end(1200+).

Now comes the part of uninstalling them.

Cool. Glad you got it worked out. I would be crushed if I spent that much and the fit was bad...good luck on the 'remove and replace'.

Now, I am about to buy an ebay special header for one of my Miatas...I expect the install will go something like this:

I loled so hard at the gif. The FRS had an ebay special header. People bought them and found out that they only had one O2 sensor bung.

It's a four cylinder...why would you need two? lol

With the Miata one, it's a bonus if your bung is actually in the right place.

Who needs to know if the cat is working!! Not I!

I kind of want to buy an ebay part now. Just to see what happens.
