Admit it. We have all wanted to drive a Mail Truck.
And if you haven't, that is your fault. Imagine sliding about in your neighborhood. If you are they creepy type, you could easily pull up to your want-to-be lovers house, and act like you are the mailman.
MORE PROS THAN CONS(not really)
These things look dirt cheap to buy, and look just as cheap to run. After all, they do rack up thousands of miles on their routes.
Sure, you would have to avoid highways, learn to drive on the right hand side, and deal with limited passenger space, but just think! Great fuel economy, a lightweight funky ride. Plus, a short wheelbase for hooning. But honestly why haven't they made these for the road? I can think of several. Small, not fast as stated before. Oh well, I would still love my mail truck and drive it everywhere.
On a side not, a lack of doors could be bad.

It appears to have doors to me?

There aren't any specialty mechanical parts, even. Very easy to maintain.
Consider the idea of an LLV as first "car" thoroughly endorsed.

I have spent an inordinate amount of time wondering what it would be like to have one for a day. Something about those little steelies just makes me want to go nuts with it.

I'm sure you can fit a 2.0 ecoboost in there. Now that will be ultimate hoonage anywhere. And remember, you don't need emissions testing so you can just use a straight pipe.

We don't have these in Canada, so I don't spend an inordinate amount of time thinking this, but I have spent at least 5 minutes wondering how good it would drift.

Introducing the all new Grumman LLP (Life Long Pedo)!

Post is pretty damn timely. I actually spent all today seeing if you could buy one of these. Lack of a passenger seat may be a problem, but you also have an excuse to not give out rides. Take this to parties and you'll NEVER be the designated driver!

cops never pull us over, it's great i've passsed cops in one and they don't even look twice. they do rattle like a tin of marbles when I hit the railroad tracks, the doors tend to ice over easily, the heater sucks, no radio.
They are phasing these out though, they are slowly bringing in the FFV's and they suck, crappy turning radius, awesome heater, good acceleration but no room in the front.

The only vehicle used by mailmen in my area is the VW Kombi... It comes standard with sliding doors, extra cargo space and higher risk of carjacking, so not a fun ride at all.

I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but my dad, a mail carrier for thirty years, still complains that the USPS took his Jeep away. He hates the LLV's.

Right-hand drive for a first time driver = CERTAIN DEATH

Well, I judged it off of the one that comes to my neighborhood......

Hahaha. I learned how to drive in Micronesia on a Japanese car on the American side of the road. I'm still alive, but it is not convenient at all.

great car!
It's heavy
Short wheel base
Body on frame
Pushrod iron block four banger
Super slow
Two wheel drive /rear wheel drive (half good)
Solid axles
I guess it'll be a good 4x4 if it was four wheel drive. I guess you could convert it to a 4x4 and install a Ford EcoBoost.

Believe it or not, I am going to be driving in a year and a half and I am looking into a used Grumman LLV (aka the mail truck... :D). The website I looked at has one for sale... used, of course. Now, finally, someone who understands me... “Higu is love, Higu is life” needs to shut the heck up. These trucks have great storage, great gas (or else they’d have to stop at a gas station after every neighborhood), and are used in all weather conditions. This makes for a great car! Thanks DeltawingGothamDeserves!
