Just a note: The Hyundai isn't a van, it's a small hatchback.

Looks like Mexican plates, which would make it an Atos by Dodge.

Sold through Dodge dealers, with the Hyundai badges still on it, although the Hyundai name wasn't mentioned in marketing.

Houston is the worst.

Austin is the best.

Sounds like somebody figured out there's no decent Mexican joints in The Big Apple. I'm heading out for a nice gas station barbacoa just for you, Matt! ;)

How's carless life in the new town treating you?

I couldn't figure out what it was to save my life. All I knew was that it was tiny...

Thanks for the info!

It's never struck me as odd, but I guess we do. That's a moderately high traffic intersection in NW Harris, so maybe it's for clearance purposes?

Yeah, Dodge has been doing this sort of thing in Mexico for years.

The current Mexican Dodge lineup includes the i10 by Dodge and the Attitude (a rebadged Accent), while the Mexican Ram lineup includes the Hyundai H100 in gas and diesel form, along side the new Promaster.

Even our intersections with the overhanging metal arms have the traffic lights mounted horizontally. The only place with vertical stoplights is downtown.

These days it's pretty routine to see Mexican cars in the southern half of Texas. Even if the plates didn't give them away, the fact that they're driving vehicles completely nonexistent elsewhere in North America — a Peugeot 206, for instance, or a Benz A-class hatchback (both of which I've personally witnessed) — are kind of a dead giveaway.

It's to prevent damage to the lights during high winds/hurricanes. They're more aerodynamic when mounted sideways.
