I just spent the last ten minutes watching this video with the Best Of 2013 'Ring crashes. Why? Dunno! I don't mind the race car crashes. These guys pay/get paid to crash their cars! It's the crashes that occur during the "Touristenfahrten" that literally cause me pain. Car guys like you and me that get to fulfill a dream, and drive their precious around the track, only to smash it to bits and pieces. This is the stuff that really hurts! There's a Suby, a new Jaaag XJ, and an EK Civic (Monkeypuzzle anti-bait/repellent?) among a plethora of Bimmers getting the weight-saving treatment.

Take away my Jalop-card if you want but I'll admit to something;

Given the chance, I would NOT drive my personal car around the Ring, the thought of the damage that could be done in a very difficult track (read $$$$) would keep me from enjoying the experience.

I wouldn't risk my current beater on the 'ring. Simply because I couldn't replace it ASAP. And I sure a hell wouldn't risk a better car either. I'd rather get driven around by Sabine or rent something and pay the insurance involved.

there's actually a fair few decent saves in here. and it seems a LOT of them are just people losing traction on the undulating surface that makes the 'ring so unique

If they had 'drive like a tourist' day where one could perambulate around I'd do it...but not out in the mix with the boy-racers and such...waaay too much money at risk.

My wife and I ran the Ring in November of 2005. There was a guy there with a Opel Speedster (based of the Lotus Elise). He preened over the car for a couple of hours before the track opened. Polished it, checked pressures, polished it again...

When the track went green we waited for 20 minutes before going out to let the hot heads get ahead of us. We made it to near Hocheichen (early in the lap) , and sure enough, that Opel was spread from one side of the track to the other. Guy was ok, but the car was toast. You know, the track charges you for damaged armco?

I would love to take our LeMons car there. That would be huge fun.

I wouldn't take your card, even if I had some divine authority to do so (which I don't, probably because I'm an opinionated ricer prick), and I'd totally take a few laps around the 'Ring given the opportunity, except...

Dude, if it was raining, I would straight turn around and go home. My car is already an Oversteer-mobile. I'd end up with the ass in the wall, I just know it.
