I loved it. It was a great bit of popcorn entertainment. The Jager/Kaiju designs were awesome, they didn't weigh it down with too much plot, and the effects were amazing.

I just hope that this franchise doesn't take up all of Del Toro's time, and he's finally able to make his At the Mountains of Madness movie.

I saw it too and the people i went with hated it, i liked it. But honestly it reminded me so much of the gundam shows on cartoon network years back. Good memories.

What? He's making a movie of that? Oh my... and here I thought I loved Pan's Labyrinth.

He's been trying to make it for years, and it looked like it was about to happen for sure for a bit, but it was suddenly shelved. James Cameron is producing, and it was supposed to be the next movie after Avatar to use Cameron's 3D cameras/tech. It's apparently back on, though, since Del Toro put out his sketchbook a couple months ago, and it had originally included his designs for various Lovecraftian horrors that were going to be in At the Mountains of Madness, but they were cut from the book at the last minute at the request of the studio.

I newer knew that. Thanks for telling me. We MUST have a proper Lovecraftian movie with Del Toro. We simply must.

Interdasting. I wonder if it's on Netflix.

I can't think of any director who would be able to do a better job of capturing what Lovecraft was about, thematically.

Sam Raimi could do it, since he's a big enough fan, but Del Toro's sensibilities just mesh so well with the whole Lovecraft cosmic horror thing.

My dream Lovecraft movie, though, would be a Ken Burns-style mocumentary built around footage that was allegedly taken as evidence by the secret service after taking down the Esoteric Order of Dagon in The Shadow Over Innsmouth

I like that thought... Only way it could be better would be if Terry Gilliam was involved.

Yeah... I LOVED The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

It's concentrated fun and awesome. Much better than Transformers, but that isn't really a challenge unless you're Uwe Boll.

I went into it expecting to see giant robots punching giant monsters. I was not disappointed.

Haha as I should probably, I guess. Two great shows by all accounts, although I have yet to see them.

Inner dialogue, me watching it:

Inner critic: "Okay, now, getting carried into the sky by the kaiju and slicing it half? Getting a touch ridiculous"

Inner 12 year old: "In half. With a sword. And a "for my family!". And now the Jaeger is base-jumping. You shut. the fuck. up."

Could've had more action and I think if the world powers really did get together to build these massive machines they'd be 100x better than what the movie came up with. The whole time I was thinking the damn Megazord from Power Rangers moved faster and more fluid (I know it was a guy in a costume).
