I'm not sure it could or would work.. Where's the amp? That is a dashboard in a VW (Golf/Jetta MkII) and they never had a hidden amplifier :P

Ahh... well, the thing is.. ahem.. Sure you could use an optical drive from a computer, but they don't have any means to amplify the output. So they'll need an amplifier. I'm guessing he/she/they are using the output for the headphones as a means to somewhat amplify the signal, but that would be made to work with 32ohms.. and very low amounts of watt.. Normal speakers are 4-8ohm, and needs at least 10-20watts to actually make a sound you can hear while driving (depending on the sensitivity of the speakers). Anywho, unless there is an amplifier somewhere outside that picture, this will not work.

You're good to go man, your English is a hell of a lot better than half of America. It's pretty sad how bad literacy is in this country. Where/how/when/why/etc. did you learn English, anyway? Is it common for Norwegians to know English?

Most Norwegians 35 or younger are pretty much on par with the average american I'd say (no disrespect meant).

I've been learning English at school since I was 8 I think. Now they have lessons in English when they are 6. I mostly learned English trough the Telly and books though, read the Hobbit in English when I was 13.

But we've got huge problems with literacy here as well.. we're just so exposed to the English language that we learn it anyway. Same thing with spanish in the southern states in the US I'd imagine.

I myself actually suffers from Dyslexia (that's how you spell it in english I presume?)

It was back in high school, my moms car doesnt come with a stereo nor she planned on putting in one. I bought a used computer speaker with a 12v input and plug it in a cigarette lighter. Sound like shit esp when paired with panasonic shockwave walkman. But making shitty setup sounds better was the genesis of me being a car audiophile.

Anyway fast forward 6 years later, I had a $15k sound system that I installed myself on my lancer evolution.

Why would you spend $15K on that? You'll never see that in resale. Unless you're doing sound competitions or something. And if you're not winning all of them, you're doing it wrong.

Not in it for the competition, but personal satisfaction plus guys at eca.com (elitecaraudio for those who wanna know) are a bunch of dicks for making me spent more and more.Never won anything, and the sad thing was, I'm not even satisfied with how my car sounded.

I was far from done when I put the brake on my audio build, I could easily spent another 10k more but the housing market crashed and so are most of my money.

Haha. yeah. I don't know much spanish, but I live in a town that have quite the amount of immigrants from countries that speak arabic, and polish, slavic languages. I may not SPEAK them, but I do understand... and I sometimes say stuff like Koskesh (well, not arabic, but persian) and Kurwa..

About the influx of Arabic speaking people in Norway... is this a relatively new thing? It's been two and a half years, but if I remember correctly Anders Breivik may have been motivated partly by that issue.

Nah... we've had people from Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and all that jazz here for YEARS. Some behave badly, most don't. ABB was a nutter and a loner. Sadly we have had a surge in people who thinks he was right... Thing about him is that he's sick, mental.. call it what you'd like.. I think what came as a shock to many people in the US was how we reacted to what he did... there was hardly any "KILL HIM KILL HIM", it was more "that boy needs treatment, he's not right in the head.

Ps. I actually WAS in Oslo when he started shooting, an hour or so after the bombing, and my first thought was "this must be some right wing nutter"

I heard he's been sentenced to serve 21 years. Do you think he'll get out after then? Or is that just a formality, and he'll spend the rest of his life in what a lot of Americans call a "Norwegian resort"?

Thing is that he's sentenced to something that I cant quite translate... but it's something like this "yes, he's sentenced to 21 years, BUT with something we call "forvaring (custody)". That means he'll be in jail until a court find that he's well enough to be released (i.e no longer a danger to society).

So we actually DO have a life sentence in Norway, we just try to "mend" people as far as possible :)

Edit: No, I don't think he'll ever be released.. but I actually hope he will.. because then we'll have proved that maniacs can be cured.

That's certainly an interesting take on justice. I think a basic American equivalent to that might be when a prisoner is eligible for parole. Not exactly the same of course, but a little bit similar.

I know this is rather shocking for most people from the US... BUT, we have a belief that perhaps it's better to try and rehabilitate(right word?) the criminals.. We can't simply fathom how it would benefit anyone if you give a 16 year old boy a "third strike" and a sentence of 21 years. The way we see it, it would be better to try and make him a better person, so that he can contribute, and not be a burden. Parole would be something similar yes, but not quite.

Anyway, the point was that we actually DO have "prison for life" in Norway.. but Fox news skews things to their advantage :P

When the rear speakers in my beater Cavalier went out, I tried some old computer speakers first. Meh. So I upgraded to some speakers from an old 90s boom box. Actually sounded pretty good for two random speakers wedged up against the back seat from inside the trunk. I think it was this exact one below.

Here in the US, I think prison is the rehabilitation. Or that's the idea, at least. The prisons are run by the Department of Corrections. Realistically, it typically makes convicts into even more knowledgeable criminals. The actual amount of correction to the prisoner is debatable.

And the Fox news channel was created by an Australian ;) A rather inconvenient fact for those who consider it to be the apex of all things American. Do you guys get that channel (or any US channels) in Norway?
