I'm not quite sure why, I don't even know if i can afford one, but it just does something for me. The 2.0 Turbo would suffice for me.

Hell, it's my birthday, indulge me.

You're not alone. I'm thinking of a getting a CPO 128i lately (can't do 135i $) with a 6 spd and they're pretty reasonably priced. Next step..finding a coupe that doesn't have that awful red interior I keep finding.

I like it quite a lot as well, maybe because, in my opinion, it's a series 1 with better resolved design.

I'm not going to lie, I've had the same train of thought:

I mean, how can't you. I actually don't mind the red interior.

I think the 128 is the classic approach and there's nothing wrong that. I can't help but feel like the red is a little too loud for it and more suited for the 135 or the M because those cars make more of a statement. Thoughts?

I just plain like it. It's a good size, RWD and the 2.0T setup looks to be pretty good setup, good power and economy (plus 7000RPM redline, on a turbo! At least that's the case on the 3 series).

More of a statement, perhaps. However, I say if you like, rock it. I saw a red interior in a 1993 Miata at a car show during the summer and I thought to myself, self: "Yup, I'd totally drive that everywhere".

Happy Birthday!
I believe the 2 series is the best BMW in their current lineup (followed closely by the beautiful M6GC)...I approve of your desire for one.

All Jalop Miata love aside, that's a nice Miata.

The 2 will be much adored in the next decade.

Do they have a simple N/A inline-6 for the 2-series? I'd choose that over the turbo.

You have great taste in cars! I would love the new 2 series but with our winters here in Montreal and my past experience with RWD on ice, I'll have to go AWD A3/S3 or Golf R fun a fun DD sports car...

And happy birthday!

Thanks!

The winters here in southern Ontario aren't that bad, so no worries about that. Plus, I'd wager a guess that stability control would help a lot with the RWD (I've only driven a FWD car with stability control, but it helps tremendously).

I'm pretty confident that a 128i manual will be the next car I purchase, this will be after I graduate of course. So, hopefully they will drop in price in about a year.

From what I know, there will only be a 2.0T (228) and the inline six (twin?) turbo (235). Not NA straight six unfortunately, you'd have the buy the 1 series for that. I'd be a little leery about owning a BMW turbo, but proper maintenance and making sure I can actually afford the car mends that thought.

Yup, that'd be wicked, no doubt.

However, in terms of what I'd actually fork over my hard earned cash for, I'd probably be looking at buying the 228i with minimal amounts of options. Why? Because I'm cheap and would rather A) Save money for repairs/maintenance, or B) Lightly modify the car to my liking (versus buying an expensive sport package). Just looking to enjoy the car, not purchase an iPod.

In that case, what do you think of this - http://m.autotrader.com/vdp.html?id=35…

Been on my radar but that red is a turn off. I like black, the price and mileage, not interior.

Traction and stability control helps cornering but doesn't help if you are stuck on ice or in snow. You actually have to disable it because otherwise, the system just cuts the gas and/or brakes the spinning wheels so you can't move!

My RX-8 was really bad for that when it was icy. I have an especially bad memory from one day, trying to get on the highway on an up going ramp, I got stopped by traffic and then couldn't move forward... The car was just going sideways and those concrete walls on the edge of the ramp were getting scary close (plus the embarrassment of jamming traffic behind me...). Tried starting from 2nd and 3rd gear but the wheels kept spinning.

I was lucky enough that there was debris and gravel on the side so I finally got some grip as the car got closer to the edge!

Still, I got scared a bit and having kids makes me care more about safety now.
