A source close to the investigation !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that "speed and speed alone" are being looked at as the cause of the crash that killed Paul Walker and an associate on November 30th.
The investigators have completely ruled out mechanical failure, road debris or any other interference with the car, and surprisingly have also said that the car did not crash during the sharp curve in the road, as previously speculated.
"They were well out of the curve when they lost control," the official said.
It was also reported that the three onboard data recorders survived the fire intact, and they will be asking Porsche for assistance in retrieving the information, which will let investigators know if the passengers were wearing seat belts, and if the driver used the brakes before losing control.
The investigator did not provide a current speed estimate, and said that specialists were still working on reconstructing the accident based on all available data.

If its speed, and it was after the curve...well shit. I've got no reasonable theory as to what could've happened.

Too much throttle too early, it seems.
RIP, and be safe out there, all.

Right because the manufacturer would have nothing to gain by making it look like driver error if it were somehow a mechanical/design flaw.

Not to be insensitive but it has to be an embarrassing end to a racing driver.

...found that at least one of the tires was made in 2004."
From the article. That's not good. I'm betting tires played a major role...

The yard sale in the road around the impact seems like a good indicator that the speed involved may have been significant.

I have driven a Carrera GT and I can tell you that it was my opinion that the car was actively trying to kill me when I exited every single turn. I drove it on a track and I shudder to think of the trouble I could have gotten into if I were to drive one on the street.
IMHO it was an awesome car and such a fun car to drive on the track but it has too much power and is too light to not have traction control and if you aren't careful on the street it will kill you. Seems to me that the driver just wasn't aware of the sheer will of that car; not because of inexperience behind the wheel but because of inexperience behind the wheel of that car.
A lot of experienced drivers that I have talked to have said that they love the car but wouldn't touch it on the street for that reason alone.

Crazy hermits are like the circus, except you have to bring your own peanuts. Also, crazy hermits tend to mistake the word "peanuts" for "penis" more often than the circus, so there's that.

No. If you have a keyboard in your hands, it's something keeping you from flinging feces. Hell, it's something keeping us all from flinging feces.

On top of that, from what I gather, Rhodas was perhaps not qualified enough to be driving it. Yes he had some races under his belt. But he was not a seasoned race car driver. Also I am not sure what his extent of experience was with the Porsche. So this is all purely speculation on my part. But it seems like the odds were slightly out of their favor to arrive alive.

You could always outsource flinging of feces. There's got to be a business model for getting the feces flung that Americans and Canadians won't fling.

I actually used to fling feces but it got me into trouble, otherwise I'd outsource to myself.

I've heard it's not environmentally friendly anyway. Maybe something like feces, but less reeksome and more green.

Is Streptococcus necessarily that much evil? Also, the SA level of evil depends somewhat on if it's MRSA.
Salmonella and E. Coli would be the Diet Coke of bacterial evil, but would maintain verite' with the original concept of poo-flinging. Hmm.

SA on its own is good to scare the friends and family and it makes for one entertaining stocking stuffer.

Allen McNish agrees and he knows a thing or two about driving a car. Its a bad idea to test the limits of that car on the street.

When a car is as destroyed as this one is, how is anyone able to determine whether or not there was a mechanical failure?
I'm not saying that I disbelieve the investigator's idea about speed, but just in general, how do forensics guys deal with an exploded car?

I don't really understand the point of looking into it further. The reason we spend so much time and money finding out the causes of accidents is to prevent them from happening again. We know what happened here. It's sad, but finding out if they were wearing seatbelts or if they hit the brakes isn't really going to change anything about what we know about the accident. Why waste the time and money?
