The Skoda Octavia is basically a cheaper VW Golf. It's also more interesting, and much bigger inside.
In recent years Skoda's vRS has become the new GTi. They use the same engines and largely the same set-ups.

Nice review!
I was already considering the RS as my next car, now even moreso.

I shall magically appear on your doorstep, should you choose to acquire one.

I friend of mine has a first gen Octavia not the vRS version, but the one with the same engine as the vRS but 30hp/25N·m less. It is very, very decent car. We made 200km/h on one trip and it was like we were doing 140. With my CLK 280, 200 feels a little bit scary.
I really like Skodas, they do everything a VW does for less money. I will never buy one, but if I had to choose from something done by Peugeot, Renault, Dacia, FIAT(except 500 Abarth) or Skoda, I will choose the Czech hands down.
