Then I suggest not taking the trip to go stand in a glass box high above the Alps. The French have constructed a new tourist attraction on the Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix. The cube is made of three layers of tempered glass and is suspended from a large steel support structure. The floor is approximately a kilometer above the ground and offers views of Chamonix, Mont Blanc (Monte Bianco for AUTOVOX) and the surrounding area.
The large building you can see in the photo below is the tram station and IIRC there is a restaurant and some other tourist attractions in there. More photos can be found !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . The trams climb from Chamonix at ~3395 feet to the Plan de l'Aiguille at an elevation of ~7520 feet to the Aiguille du Midi at ~12260 feet. The tram from Plan de l'Aiguille to the Aiguille du Midi is the highest tram in Europe and the longest unsupported tram in the world.
Having ridden up the tram I can tell you it is more like riding in an elevator than a tram. It seems like you are closer to the mountain horizontally than you are vertically. Unfortunately the day we went the weather was slightly cloudy so there wasn't too much of a view while riding in the car.
If you are a skier you must make the trip to Chamonix at least once in your life. And when you get there hire a guide and ski the Vallee Blanche. It took us about 3.5 hours to ski down from the summit of the Aiguille du Midi including a stop for pie and Red Bull at the Refuge du Requin.
Here is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that I found which also includes a photo gallery showing the construction and includes a helicopter flyby of the cube.
Here is the helicopter flyby
And a promotional video for several of the attractions including the "Step Into the Void".

The Willis Tower has one of those and it's pretty surreal. You look down and kinda lose your balance and stuff. It's pretty trippy.
