I had an issue with my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! yesterday when going to work where my key wouldn't turn at all. I tried all of the standard (shifting out of park, turning the wheel, rocking the car, etc) and couldn't get it to work. I called the dealer, they said a tech would call and give me info on how to remove the ignition lock cylinder(still haven't received the call), which requires you to be able to turn the key to the on position(i couldn't do that). After working remotely for 5 hours (more on this later) and walking to the autoparts store for a new cylinder, I decided it was time to follow information that google gave me, which was lightly tap the key into the ignition with a hammer while turning and see if would go.

That didn't work. At this point in time, I've been remote and my manager isn't pleased that I'm working while working on my car. After more google research, i find that my options are limited to drilling the clynder lock out or calling a lock smith (or a tow, but i live on tight streets and there's no way a flat bad is getting up here to get me, as they told me when my liberty needed to be towed). At this point, I'm tired of dealing with it, i needed to get to work today, so I shove the screwdriver into the ignition, hit it 5-10 times with a hammer, and all of the tumblers come out, which is a solid start. After a couple minutes of getting the tumblers off of the screw driver, i can now turn the old cylinder lock out of the column. I clean everything, replace it and it works fine.
My question is, what fixes have other opponauts done that wasnt exactly hammer related work, but worked out?

I've fixed multiple items on my '99 Grand Cherokee with a hammer.
When I got it, the driver's seat power front height adjuster was stuck in the fully up position. I did some research and found that if you hold the switch while banging on the jack screw under the seat that's turned by the motor, it'll loosen up and start moving again. Sure enough, with a little persuasion from a ball peen hammer, it worked.
I also had a problem not being able to turn the key in the ignition. It took multiple attempts, but putting the key in the ignition and whacking the key with a rubber mallet got the key to turn. I then promptly drove it to the dealer where they replaced the lock cylinder and cut a new key.

We had a 96 Cherokee that had starter problems. Instead of replacing it; the trick was to get down there with a giant wrench (we had no hammer) and it worked EVERY time... no matter what... about three hits would get it fixed and starting again. I remeber being in the Walmart parking once and I had to crawl under and bang it (I was only 6 and small enough to easily fit under it).
So, bad starter? Smack it!

I had an old minivan that the spedometer went out on. If you smacked the dash in just the right spot it would sometimes work. My husband stuck a mallet in my van for me to use instead of my palm.
