Seriously, it's easier to pull teeth than find new info on the i8...and I should know.
Apparently an induction charger.

After BMW convinces the DOT that their laser headlights aren't really lasers just light emitting diodes they're calling lasers.

the best I can say is to sign up for the BMW Press Club (they don't need press credentials). I have caught some news on the i8 through that channel, but I admit it is scant

Yep, first on the list and they've been told to only expect one for the first 6-12 months. It was coming March/April, but it's been pushed back (only in the US as far as I can tell) to May/June. As Party-vi states below, Audi and BMW are lobbying hard for laser right now, and I think BMW is hoping to get it approved by Spring to be able to say "First US production car with laser headlights."

It's not like you need the information, you'll have your dirty hands all over one in a few months.

Damn that's cool looking. Can't wait to see your photos once you get it!
Sidenote, where do you live? If you're anywhere near northern VA with it sometime, please, please, please bring it to cars and coffee...

Yeah, I know, I'd like there to be some surprises, but mostly I just wish they would release the options list or come out and say "no options, everything's standard", which if the "BMW i" brand manager is to be believed, is they way they're going. In an interview at the LA Auto Show, he said "buyers will pick a paint color, a wheel design, and an interior color, and that's basically it." So here's hoping they just throw in HUD, traffic radar (the fusion of active cruise, blind spot detection, and lane departure sensors), all the BMW apps, etc. They want to soften the hit of people thinking they paid $135k for a 3-cylinder sports car.

I would think they've pretty much made up their mind on everything by this point. If that's the case, they should at least release information so that people like you who've put down a deposit can get it. Make you sign an NDA or something if they don't want it all to be public at once, but it certainly seems silly to leave buyers out in the cold this close to release.

My college buddies are in a triangle of Richmond, Charlottesville, and DC so I'm up there fairly often. Took the SLS to a couple C&C in Richmond and my best friend's parents live a mile from Katie's. It will definitely be making trips up that way all while doing crazy MPG.

Sweet! I'm about 40 minutes outside DC; I usually go to the C+C in Falls Church, at Katie's. A few other opponauts show up as well; Patrick George brought an ATS once, I believe.

A new smart key for a Toyota is around $550 all in from my dealership and people pitch a complete fit over it. I can't see this thing being less than $1,000
