I got to go snow hooning in the Audi last night with StreetsideStig in the passenger seat. In true Audi fashion though, it was not without its issues! First we got beached on a larger-than-expected pile of snow. The Quattro drivetrain pulled the car through snow higher than the oil pan for about 20 feet before getting stuck just as the front wheels reached the other side of the pile. A bit of minor clutch abuse later and the Audi was free to hoon on. We then went over to a clearer part of the parking lot and proceeded to do at least ten doughnuts all while being practically stationary (picture shows the tire marks immediately after this). However, that's when the biggest issue reared its head: the alternator belt slipped off. Ah well... we'll take care of that tomorrow or sometime. The battery was strong enough to get the car home.

Tomorrow will be the WRX's turn in the snow.

I hooned my STI on unplowed backroads the other day and had a great time. It was 2am, so I really didn't have to worry too much about meeting any traffic other than the snowplows. Once I turned off the traction and stability control, I started to appreciate the mantra of "never-lift".

That sounds pretty awesome. I didn't even have to worry about traction or stability control in something this old. Heck, even the ABS was turned off. Never lift, indeed. I had all four wheels spinning endlessly.

What year did they start coming with TC and stability control? I've got an '07 and the only traction control is the manual with the gas pedal kind.

New and standard on all models : front, side, and new front and rear side curtain airbags, VDC (electronic stability control) , keyless entry with laser cut Immobilizer key and ignition disabling alarm, telescoping steering wheel with audio and cruise controls, fold down rear seats now on sedan (and wagon of course). Makes sense, I forgot they did the total redesign then.
