Mind = Blown...
I came in expecting the same as the tech demo, boy was I in for surprise!
It's just amazing, and If you're a simracing fan and you don't own this, you're missing out big time.
The handling is very dynamic, the detail in the FFB is really crisp, the graphical fidelity in the cars is pretty much spot-on.. Even in its early access state, it's better than most, if not all simulators out right now, This relies more on how you drive, instead of the way your car is set up. Videos don't do this simulator justice, I spent $40 on this, and I was still blown away. I'm using an Nvidia GTX560 at 2048x1152, and I'm getting a very good framerate, pegged at 60 FPS with no drops. The only time I would have an issue with this is the showroom mode that only puts out 5 FPS for me for some reason or another.
There have been a lack of good simulators for the PC in recent years, especially ones that are open to modding (third party mod support isn't in AC yet, but it will by the time the official release comes).
I seem to have a lot of more fun with the smaller vehicles (such as the Lotus 2-Eleven, KTM X-Bow) than the more powerful cars in the game. The Zonda R is a joy to drive despite its massive power output, (as said by Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear)
Drifting is a bit tricky from what I've experienced, I've been using the drift-spec e30, which has an e46 M3 drivetrain, and over 300HP. (not the one pictured)
There are still some issues, but this being a pre-release title, there is a lot of time to change until it's official. It doesn't really simulate the clutch at lower speeds and something doesn't feel right.
long story short, If you don't own a copy, buy one, it'll be the best $40 software purchase you'll ever make.

Is this playable with a gamepad? I haven't got a wheel and I'm not about to buy one unless I find one dirt cheap at Good Will or a thrift store. I was looking at the game on the Steam store and it looked like a Ferrari ad.

This is interesting..
I've been stuck in NFS Shift 2 for couple of years (that helmet view is absolutely brilliant), but i think shift was ruined by the stupid b/w mode when you crashed. If my PS3 still stuck in Sony Centre all the way to january, i might buy this.

I believe it's their goal to make it work with the most controllers possible, and I've read it somewhere that they're trying to make it an enjoyable experience for all users, even those who drive with mouse.

I'll definitely keep an eye on this one and drop $40 when I have it. Sounds like it might keep me going during the dry spells when I'm not an iRacer.

On xbox 360, for some reason Shift 2 makes my fanatec wheel extremely heavy for some reason, and I can't adjust it out. But you're right, the helmet cam view is amazing.

Most PC racing sims I've played with a gamepad are nigh uncontrollable with one. Just not properly set up for the limited range of motion the thumbstick has.
