For those curious, or not yet adequately disgusted today, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! the rehab facility 16 year old !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! will be going to after killing four people while drunk. While there he will get to go horseback riding, take cooking and martial arts classes, swim in the pool, and be relaxed by professional masseuses. If he shows "good behavior" he'll even be rewarded with days at the beach.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Also, according to the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Ethan's parents have been accused of more than twenty crimes and traffic violations between them prior to Ethan's crash, including theft, assault, and nine traffic violations for the father and a charge of forcing a driver off the road for the mother. What a fantastic family

Awwwww. It's a pity he didn't go to big boy rapey prison to be passed around like the sweet treat he is.

Let's hope the civil suits win and his family fortune is destroyed.

At this point in time, I see no other way for the civil suits to go. They would have to match this equally silly sentence. Since the pure fact that his family having money was to cite for him killing four people they should have to pay out the wazoo and end up going broke or having to sell off major assets to stay afloat. That family should be financially ruined because of this. Or they could you know, try him as an adult for manslaughter and send him to prison.

The judge's ruling is ridiculous. I'm no lawyer, but don't legal cases rely on previous rulings and the precedents they set a lot....what the hell kind of precedent is this setting???

At least in civil court sounds like the family is going to get squeezed for every penny they have (actually I don't know how much they have, maybe they won't even flinch)...there's still so much wrong here that no amount of money will ever fix.

Makes me wonder if there was a precedent set that the judge was following?

Maybe he's a golf buddy of the father?

It wasn't the pure fact. The actual argument revolved more around the fact that his parents were so preoccupied with other issues, like their divorce, that they almost completely ignored him and just threw money at his problems. It's a legitimate point to argue that the kid is messed up in the head, but it was presented in a fuckballed fashion, and the "punishment" is far too lenient. Even though these types of places do actually help reform people, the probation was a slap on the wrist.

At first glance, it was absurd, but I kind of understood the desire to send a kid who's only 16 through rehab. By no means should that have been the only punishment, and dang right you can do some rehabilitation from behind bars or at the very least a less cushy facility, but I get it: 16 is pretty young to get in this much trouble. Do whatever's possible to turn him away from a life behind bars.

Then I found out that this ain't his first hurrah with the legal system. Yeah, no, you've had your chances by now. Either you learned your lesson, or...nope, killing four people is NOT learning squat. At this point, you have earned a chance to avoid dropping the soap. Or cue Beavis: "The CHAIR! The CHAIR!"

Meh, I got too many other things to worry about than being angry over some rich kid killing people and then going to rehab. It sucks that this worked out like this, but I do still believe that the civil suits need to bankrupt this family and furthermore the family company since it was a company truck that was used. Meh, I'll go back to studying rather than paying attention to this case.

I think this would have been a decent rehab center, too.

It still offers activities, fresh air, structure, and possible days at the beach.

That, plus the fact that the same judge had a case with a different kid who is 14 recently who got in to a fight, punched somebody...the victim fell on a concrete floor and died as a result of the injuries. THAT kid got sent to jail.

Interestingly enough, that kid is black and does not have rich parents. I don't see how anyone can argue that this isn't a double standard which may most certainly have a racial element tied in to it as well.

A kid with no prior history got in a fight as many kids do, things unfortunately went wrong...and he ends up in jail. This kid however, who has had multiple offenses in the past gets drunk with a BAC of 0.24 (3 TIMES the legal limit for ADULTS which he is not), runs over and kills 4 people and injures others, and then the little douchefuck has the nerve to turn to his passengers and say "I'm Ethan Couch, I'll get you out of this"... HE gets a chance to rehabilitate?

No idea, but it most certainly wasn't based on precedent from the ruling the same judge handed out not too far back to a different kid - this one 14, black, and poor who punched someone in the face who fell on a concrete floor and unfortunately died of his injuries. THAT kid got sent to jail. I'd really really like to think that at least race had nothing to do with this - if anything, that the judge knew the parents were well connected and rich - but even that would be a horrible way to go about doing your job when you're supposed to be upholding the law and serving JUSTICE, not favours.

Oh yeah—that judge is a miserable excuse for a human being, no doubt.

The whole story is sickening. Absolutely sickening. That other kid she sent to jail ought to be making one giant stink right now. I don't even think he'd find it hard to find a person looking to take that one on pro bono—for great justice, you know.

Its certainly possible that the precident was set with a different judge. Either way, it is annoying that there is this much disparity
