A friend brought over some of these and I decided to give one a try...after 3 glasses of wine. I'm not as drunk as I thought I would be....yay improved tolerance!

Finals for me. Guess that means I will be drinking Jim Beam in moderation.

Is there a secret to drinking alcohol that I'm not aware of? Because I've tried drinking all manner of beer, wine, whiskey and other liquors and it all tastes Terribad to me.

The Cocoa Psycho is quite good, but pair it with a Whisky with a thick palate with notes of hay and a fruity finish and it's just brilliant :) I guess the smoke/peat in a Tallisker or Laphroaig would work as well, but in a different way.

i don't do hard stuff...but my beer and wine tastes have been acquired over time...if it is not your thing, don't worry. :)

Schweppes Indian Tonic ! Because I've got work to do and it's my "I've got work to do" beverage. Also it's 2am here, so I should probably get started. I'll reward myself with a Pelforth Brune when I'm done.

One trick would be to buy GOOD stuff.. none of that cheap bland generic shit most places sell. But if you don't like alcohol, I see no reason for you to try getting into it. :)

Most people don't realize that beer and wine and booze in general are acquired tastes. Beer tasted bad for me when I was younger but now I find it very delicious and refreshing. Pilsners are a good starting point if you want to try some non-offensive brews but it takes a bit for you to change your palate in your brain to accept the bitterness of hops as a good flavor. . .

Not bad, not great either. Better than the bacon helldrink they previously did.

Cheerwine and Starbucks, it's studying season. But don't jump to conclusions and assume that I'm drinking them together, merely one is hot and one is cold.

I'll have to check those out.
Maybe I just have too much of a sweet tooth to take in bitterness in my beverages.

I have bought two of those. That one, and the maple brisket bacon bbq backwash .
Never again, voodoo, never again.

Now that is a west highland dram of distinction, and a favorite. Almost drinks like an islay being close to the sea

A wee dram before bedtime keeps the goblins away aye? My favourite whisky is Tallisker though..

If you REALLY want to learn how to like beer, and you don't like bitter stuff, then you should avoid anything with ladden with hops.. pilsner, IPA, Lambic and such wont be your thing. neither would guinnes since that's got proper amounts of dark bitter malts.. I'd say stuff like Newcie Brown and the like would suit yah. Stuff with more biscuit malts than hops in general.

To be honest, this one tastes like Sam Adams Chocolate Bock, only not as good.

Yeah because they know I will fight a motherfucker. Anyhoo Tallisker is just, just great and a super smooth classic. My go to for a while was a super light, (too) easy drinking Irish by the name of Knappogue we used to get for a great price.

I've never been a fan of Irish Whiskeys... But there's this one supersmooth scottish one.. Port Charlotte An Turas Mor, there's so much citrus in it, heavy mouthfeel.. almost no peat at all.

Don't try too hard to like alcohol. It's expensive and can make you fat. It can also lead to children. However, children can also lead to alcohol. As I tell my kids, "I drink because you cry."
Not really.

I wanted to like the maple bacon sooooo bad, but I just couldn't. It just seemed to me to haev too much of a chemical taste to it.

Boddingtons Cream Ale. It's got the little nitrogen widget in the can. Hands down the smoothest drinking beer I have ever had, bar none. Damn good stuff, even if it is British!

Ohhh.. Boddingtons.. I LOVE that stuff.. they stopped selling it in Norway six years ago..
Macc lads..

Been trading off between the Ballast Point Sculpin IPA, and the Southern Tier 2Xmas. The sculpin is a great IPA, though I think it's a bit overrated on BeerAdvocate. Big nose, pleasant bright hops, moderate bitterness, balanced flavors, and great mouthfeel. It lacks something in the finish though, maybe needs a bit more minerality to soften the finish.
The 2Xmas is great as a Christmas beer. It makes no mistake what it is, just bold winter spices that tastes like Christmas potpourri in a glass. Medium bodied brown ale, with plenty of sweetness to balance the very prominent spices. It's very assertive, but at Christmas time, totally appropriate and enjoyable.

Fruit lambics or krieks might be worth a shot. They're also known as 'flemish sour' beers, though its a misnomer as most tend to be sweet or tart, with fruit forward flavors. They're not girly beers either. Kasteel Rouge has a nice black cherry flavor. And Lindemans is widely available, though I haven't tried it yet.
![]() 12/16/2013 at 11:11 |

I can't prove it, but I think Rogue uses extracts to flavor their beers, rather than using actual ingredients during the brewing process to impart flavors. It leads to a more artificial taste.

Chsistmas ales are the only 'Christmas' branded things I look forward to at this time of year. And they indeed herald the coming of glad tidings and great joy.

![]() 12/16/2013 at 13:07 |

yeah, I'm just not sure where to put the bacon in, in the fermenting process.
![]() 12/16/2013 at 13:48 |

You could roast the malt over bacon and maple chips. They make Rauchbier in similar fashion, and that always tastes bacony to me, even though they just use wood.
Heck, you could soak the malted barley in bacon grease before kiln roasting them. Or even add straight-up bacon to the wort during boil. There's probably several different ways I could imagine.
![]() 12/16/2013 at 17:35 |

maybe you should just stick to top shelf vodka. Grey Goose and Belvedere just taste like water to me.

Nah, I drink beer and whisky, and I like the extra bitter kind.
