A bit of a PSA for everyone out there - 2012 Regal GS's with <25k miles and CPO warranties can be had for less than 25k. I have a MIGHTY NEEEEEEEEEEED for some semi-quirky german turbo sedan goodness.
The engine and transmission aren't anything exotic and the regal is quite easy on insurance, even as a 24 year old in michigan. Looking up rates, it made no specification if I had the GS trim or not. So hopefully it means people aren;t getting craploads of tickets and crashes with these cars. I was looking at the fiesta ST as well, but I think I'd be pretty damn happy with either.
In any case, <25k for 260hp, 6-speed manual, mid sized luxury car is a damn good deal for a slightly used car. I've seen some go for 25K with only around 10k miles. With the AWD version now on sale, the FWD ones are apparently losing a good chunk of value as that is apparently a feature people like. Yes it is FWD, and yes it is a Buick/Opel, but my god that 6-speed is just such a peach of a gearbox that it works with the suspension and chassis to make it a fun car to drive. I made it no secret I don't like the super short throws of cars like the FR-S and I once said my Jetta's gearbox was less precise than a dowel rod in Oatmeal. But for as much as I love my Audi's shifter, the GS's shifter is just perfect. A bit of a throw with a hint of weight behind it gives some confidence on the day to day use so you don't put it in the wrong gear, but it has a very nice and smooth action so when you're really pounding it, it responds beautifully.
Now I just have to make up my mind in the next few months before I plunk down my cash.....

But seriously, it is a damn good chassis to drive. If the way we get the good opels is through Buick, I'm perfectly fine with it.

I do really like these cars, my dad and I test drove a 2011 GS and it was a bit small for him but it is a cool car overall

Yeah I think I liked my riviera's seats and position better, but the regal is probably much better from a driving perspective.

Yeah. I've driven one (automatic, but whatever) and it was beautifully balanced and plenty fast. And DAMN do the brakes bite.

The car looks superb and it's basically new, a similar Audi, Merc, etc would cost at least 10 grand more, you're even talking me into wanting to buy one!

If you don't want the very best in handling and power, I'd say they're a great buy for what they offer. Don't think of the GS as a high performance sports sedan, think of it as a very well handling GT car. I bet the GS is still softer than most 330/335 sedans and it probably gives better fuel economy too.

Not to mention how well it's resonably priced! Too bad I don't have the money (college student) or I'd take a look into it

I just graduated last year and I've been saving money every paycheck since graduation. Only time I stopped was to buy a dirt cheap jetta to beat around until it dies so I can get either this, a fiesta ST, a GTI, or a Genesis coupe.

Out of all of them you would get unique points for the Buick and I assume it's the most luxurious, at the end of the day thought you gotta do a test drive on them all! Good luck man! Let us know what you get!
