than the ones in the rear? I can't seem to find the correct answer. Is it to decrease turning radius?
Also, where can I buy one? I want to take one, lower it, add bigger wheels, chop the top, and swap in a SBC with side pipes.

I'm guessing the front are moved in so the truck can get close to the curb, limiting the need for the mail carrier to reach for a distant mail box.

Grumman LLV. I think they use the running gear from an S-10 but I'm not sure. Govdeals.com usually has some on there.

My dad is a mail carrier, 30+ years, and he still routinely complains that they took away their jeeps. I asked him about those vehicles once (they're called LV1's, for "Lifetime Vehicles", or was it Lifelong? Iunno), but he didn't know anything other than GM built the chassis.

I found this in a discussion about the Gov retiring the LLVs.
"While this vehicle may be deficient in some areas...ie the heater...it was designed with carrier input and it utterly changed the way I did my work.... The front wheelbase is narrower than the rear, allowing us to turn in a circle on a residential street."

It's an iron duke powered s10 frame. But, yeah the front track is narrow for low speed mobility.

Realistically having post boxes by the street within reach from the truck would be so much better than walking to the door. You could do more houses way faster, thus saving labor costs

Hey, if you want to walk around for 8 hours in rain, snow, heat etc. go for it. Doesn't justify miss piggy in the video. The USPS isn't the poster child for efficiency and work ethic. But you really do get a lot for the price of a stamp considering everything it goes through before it gets hand delivered.

I don't have a mailbox on my house. We have centralized boxes spaced down the street. One carrier can park and deliver twenty houses at the same stop. Fortunately, we're relatively close to the box. Others have to walk a block to get theirs.

I agree that delivering the mail is a mostly thankless job, and the fact that it works at all is somewhat of a miracle. But I have never found an organization filled with so many soulless workers who just don't care. Obviously, there are exceptions. But I wonder what it is about that job that does that to people, or if they use it as a hiring requirement.

Yeah, mine's got the same setup: one community box down the street for 16 houses (well, they're duplex's but same thing)
That's fine too, and probably more efficient than individual mailboxes. I think the postal service is fine the way it is until we replace the people with automated machinery. Or teleporters. Teleporters would be the way to go

An SBC should be an easy swap, since it's S-10 running gear underneath. So would wheels and suspension, for that matter.
Canada Post's LLVs even keep the Chevy hubcaps, something the USPS ones don't seem to have.

Here's USPS's fleet's ebay page , according to this guy . There's also auto actions that they apparently handle themselves, as opposed to doing it through the GSA.
