I like it. Don't know why people hate it so much. People here seem to favor a PoS FWD Focus ST over an AWD subaru.

I'm trying hard to like this car. This review helped, but I'm still having a hard time getting excited over the WRX. Maybe it's the cost premium I get charged with in Canada.

It does look like a good car overall though.

People are hating on it because it doesn't look exactly like the WRX concept Subaru unveiled a while back. I think if Subie hadn't shown that people would be a lot warmer to the car.

While it isn't exactly the best looking car on the road (it's still reminiscent of Subaru's 90's design language they've used up until very recently), I do think it IS a sharp looking car. I'm liking it more and more. It's considerably lighter than my current car (by about 250 lbs) and has a tiny bit more HP but a lot more torque, so it would definitely be an upgrade.

I actually like the production car a lot more than the concept. I thought the concept was overstyled and lacking the pragmatism that defines Subaru.

This is too big to be a WRX. It's more along the lines of a Legacy now..

I've always thought Subaru's cars look like they were styled in the 90's since, well, the 90's. Finally they're getting a little bit more aggressive and modern.

Tell me about it (I'm Canadian too), $32K for the BASE WRX is kind of ridiculous. Used prices remain high too.

It all makes it's FWD competitors start to look more more attractive real quick. Sure the Focus ST is $30k, but it's fully loaded. The Civic Si is $26k, loaded , and is the really performance bargain in the Canadian market (mind you the styling is kind of meh), if you ask me. Then again, even at $32k, good luck finding something with the WRX's performance and AWD for that price.

I think the best way to describe the new WRX is handsome. I wouldn't say it's drop dead sexy, that's not quite Subaru's thing, this car has nice styling ques & some sharp lines. It's enough to make you look at your car and think "yup that looks pretty good, nice job self".

Plus, dat hood scoop.

Agreed.

My MS3 was $30K out the door (Tax, PDI, Freight, etc.) and at 0% for my choice of terms (32 months to 72 months). At that price and with those terms, it makes it almost impossible to consider a WRX.

Yes the WRX is going to perform better (the MS3 is a nose heavy pig, but it tries). Yes the WRX is going to be better in the winter (that said though, I've never been stuck in my MS3 with a full set of WS-70's on her).

On paper the WRX is a great car. In reality, knowing what I'd have to pay for it, I can put a lot more into my TFSA (invested, not with the banks) and still enjoy a very fun car.

In the Canadian market, I do feel the Focus ST and MS3 are more appealing than the WRX.

Ya, the WRX really is a hard sell here. I suppose the real question is whether or not the WRX will make you THAT much happier to justify the price difference. I'd wager a guess that you'd still have plenty of fun in a MS3 or ST will money in your pocket for what you want every time.

I was okay with everything about this car up until I heard that the twin scroll turbocharger meant that Subaru has to ditch UELs. I actually think it looks good. All Imprezas, even the WRXs all look like Toyota Corollas of their respective generations, so I don't get the rose tinted "OMG SUBARU NEEDS TO GO BACK TO MAKING SEXY CARS" ridiculousness. The 22B looks like a Toyota with a wide body kit, and that's totally rad, but stop fooling yourselves. Nostalgia is deceptive.

That's where I drew the line, though. You take away my boxer rumble, and we've got problems.

I would be willing to bet you haven't driven a Focus ST if you are calling it a POS. I've owned a WRX and to say that it is better because it has AWD is ignorant.
