I see it everyday outside my dorm room. Any weather. All year round. You know exactly what you're doing with your life. sr20'd it from really far away.

I love these people!
My aunt has a red MINI that is almost at lease end. She wants to replace it with a yellow MINI. I want to talk her into a used yellow Boxster. But I would feel bad if she had the IMS issue...

There needs to be a "Dare you to DD" thread/game ongoing at Oppo.
Like, "Would you dare kiss Melissia Meranio from Home Economics?"
Would you dare to DD a first generation Viper?

They're so cheap though. You can get one for around $10k I think. I can't get over those headlights though. My dad bought a certified '05 Boxster (with the updated rounded lamps) when I was a junior in high school. He never drove it. I drove that thing everyday despite its autotragic. I miss it so much!

they are VERY cheap. i guess you could drive it till it died, then just buy another one. probably cheaper than an engine swap!
what color was your dad's car?

Where I live, the weather is pretty mild year round. Which means you take the challenge in a different direction and ask something like, "Would you DD a civillian spec HUMVEE?"

It'd be so easy to say yes. It'd be something else entirely to mean it.
"Oh, sorry darling... we can't go for a drive today as a rabbit may have sneezed on the road somewhere and there really isn't room for your fat ass anyway..."
Yeaaaah.

Yes I would DD a gen 1 Viper.
Yes I would DD an H1, and I would park that sonuva bitch on walls just to fuck with people. I think it would be too much fun just messing with people and parking an H1 in awkward places.

A Viper is one I'd say yes to without hesitation. Risking leg burns, rainy deluge or whatever... so long as I could have a coupé.

Oh it was. I begged him to keep it, but he insisted I start paying for a car of my own (I apparently couldn't pay for the Boxster even though I could afford it at the time with my job). So we traded it in and the next thing I know I'm paying for a monthly lease on a new 3 series, also an autotragic. I was pushed into choosing it if I'm honest.

Yeah, problem with these "would you" exercises is there's no accountability; no real skin in the game. That being said, I DD a Miata and scrupulously keep my top-up days below one month per year, mostly for "chance of rain" that often doesn't come to fruition. I also have a passenger maybe a dozen or so occasions a year....
As long as my other car seats 7, I'm fine. I'm practically MADE for a Seven.

"That's a handicapped parking space, you gas guzzling jerk."
And I'd be all like, "Road, yard, dogs and cats... in an H1, everything is a parking spot."
Then I'd flip them the bird and be like, "HASHTAG BOSS, BIATCH!"
I really wouldn't. But the temptation would be huge. As huge as my massive swollen... vehicle.

an AT is more tragic on a boxster than a leased 3 series. especially because tiptronic was whack. it was state of the art in 1993 but outdated in 2003

I drive an S197 Mustang every day of the year. I have a wife, we have a one month old baby.
I think I've got a little skin in the game.
And when I say yes, I mean yes... because maybe Karma is listening and will be like, "Challenge accepted."
I'd hate to have to say no to the Viper in real life when Fate is being all bitchy like, "Told you so!"
So yeah, I'd DD a 2nd gen Viper as the double bubbled coupe was my favorite car for years and years but I'd probably have to admit that a 1st gen roadster-only Viper would be a sad no.

When I was asked if it had a stick I shamefully sighed and said no. I did say "paddle shifters," however, which people usually took as a lesser positive. In reality, the awful thumb shifters were the slowest things I've ever seen to change the mere 5 gears the car had. I was quite ignorant of cars then but that Boxster is really what got me into them.

Half the time they didn't work, or would change gears for you and/or put you in the wrong gear. Literally everything else about the car was rock-solid though. I drove it in the rain/snow with zero problems. It had 55K on it when my dad picked it up. It was shockingly reliable. Every little electronic worked (even the door sensors to lower the windows slightly to give room for it to open!) 10/10 would recommend one and will probably buy one in the future (that or a cayman)

That generation and later have been rock solid.
I got to drive a new Boxster S loaner. 10/10 would buy. I actually think I'd take it over a Cayman. Kind of nice to be able to put the top down

It's very fun. You get so many looks/thumbs ups. I may have gone 120 on a back road straight because the road was empty. Pretty rock solid at speeds over 100, I can confidently say. I was way too young to have had access to that car. (I still am!)

There was one just like that trying desperately to spin his/her way up a hill just south of my office last week. I didn't wait to see how it ended - thankfully I was able to creep up at ~5 mph and get on my way.

See it really depends on where you live too. DD a 7 in weather like that? KICKASS! SoCal? Not that bad.
When I bought my DeLorean it was my only car. It is TERRIBLE in the snow and has significant blind spots. That quickly stopped. Now it only is the DD when the other car is down for significant maintenance.

Parts are definitely more than standard cars. And some of them had premature failure of certain parts or whole engines. Others were rock solid and more reliable than most cars.
I think part costs goes something like this:
Econobox -> Average Sedan -> American Luxury Car -> BMW/Audi/Mercedes -> Porsche -> Mild Exotics -> True Exotics
Porsche parts are definitely a lot cheaper than mild and true exotics

That picture isn't completely honest... I won't drive it in snow like that, mainly because the tires are dry-only tires. Wet and snow don't do well at all, and it's very tail happy with the go pedal...
I've been working ridiculous hours lately, and am still trying to get a moment to swap starters with the one Bird sent. I'm going to try to do that today and drive it to work, going to check the weather. I know it's about 19 out right now, but I think it's supposed to warm up a little tonight, to the low 20's maybe.

I suppose it would depend on how many miles you do. If it's under 5k then you probably don't need to touch the hateful little tinbox.
Lets Just Drive
> BiTurbo228 - Dr Frankenstein of Spitfires
12/13/2013 at 18:10 | 1 |
Conversely, you'd have a Prius you didn't have to give any fucks to or about. You could hammer the hell out of that hateful tin box. You could park anywhere without worrying about dings, spill food in that mobile garbage dump and generally treat a Prius the way it deserves to be treated; like a taxi. Did I mention that I was a cabbie when the Prius started to replace the Vics and Caps? I know about hammering on those hateful little things and nothing quite compares. It's like being given the opportunity to go back in time and kick Hitler in the balls.
Let me reiterate; it's like going back in time and kicking Adolf freaking Hilter in the dick'n'balls.
