Wow. Prices have come down on those a touch, I see. The market on those is hard to gauge, but I have to imagine that they're at the bottom of their depreciation curve, if you can call it that; they're not going to get cheaper, I'll just leave it at that.

Would people really consider this over a Terminator?

I think they peak in-between models refreshes, Mustang owners tend to leapfrog and buy cars as they become more performing. Chances are the owner is going to get himself a Boss 302 or new GT.

Similar to how special-edition Corvettes are usually at their lowest right after the next generation comes out, and the highest when the next generation is in the middle of its lifespan, before any refreshing or improvements.

It's probably a better investment, and significantly rarer.

Would I spend 40k on one? Hellllllll no.

Let's see here. You could have an old 400hp mustang with IRS for $44000... or just wait less than a year and have a new Mustang GT with IRS for what is probably going to be no insignificant amount less.

And you won't have to put up with the New Edge styling, if you dislike it.

Talked to a buddy who is clued into the market: '00 Rs with 30k or so on them trade into the low to mid 30s, he thinks this one would be well bought at $40k or so.

You may be on to something with that idea. Cobra Rs are an interesting case study, because about half of them are owned by collectors and the other half are owned by dudes who beat the snot out of them as track toys.

1-of-300, only Mustang with a crazy body kit and tall spoiler, 385HP N/A V8, IRS, designed for the track, and did I mention 1-of-300?

I'd say about 30% of this car is shared with the Mustang GT of its era.

1 of 300, and some have been lost. This was a factory build race car.

I believe they made over 20,000 terminators

I stumbled upon another 00R, this one was signed by Coletti back in 2005

http://www.auto.com/cars/Ford-Must…

http://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory…

I usually see these sell in the 35-38,000 range, I would love to own one. Technically now is the time to buy as they are only going to go up in value.

I know this is over a day old, and it's already been answered, but whatever.

It's sorta like a Mustang Cobra, but Cobra-er. Picture a Ford GT, minus the supercharger, but in a Mustang body. And much rarer than a Ford GT. No A/C, no stereo, no rear seat. Built to road race, but street legal. A rolling SEMA show. B&M shifter, K&N air cleaner, Carillo billet steel con rods, Bassani X-pipe, Borla mufflers, Fuel Safe fuel cell, Brembos, Recaros, Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs, BFG g-Force K/D's. Everything, you name it. $55,845 in 2000 ($75,739.70 adjusted for inflation). Excluding anything with "Shelby" on it (and including some of those as well), it is the Mustangiest Mustang to have ever Mustanged.

All of that sounds great, but I don't know if I'd want to pay $43k for it in the post-coyote era.

Actually it started with '99 Cobras.. The unique thing about the '00 R's was the 5.4l (never before in a Mustang, never again until 07 GT500), the body, suspension, and stripped interior...
