"I mean, the Skyline is basically a Porsche 911, but they cut a fuckload of corners in making it"

Which led to my response....

I admit that I'm sorta "meh" on the GTR but that even filled MY head with fuck.

TO be fair, he has a sound reasoning behind it. I just don't think they're aimed at the same market. Also, we're talking r32-34 skylines vs the same years porsches, not modern stuff.

Actually, the R35 is a better argument, as it is basically Nissan's campaign to beat Porsche stats with sheer technical brute force, and no grace whatsoever.

R32-R34 are less like a Porsche 911 Turbo.

Porsche Turbos have been on the affordable side of 'super car' for most of their existence, and are closer to a true sports car than a 2+2 GT sport coupe... even after completely glossing over the aspect of one being front-engined, and the other being rear-engined.

Not all Skylines are GT-Rs... GT-R was the fastest, turbo AWD hotted up Skyline, which was a sedan and GT coupe lineup.

All 911s are premium performance cars, and even those without prodigious amounts of power, are still performance cars.

I would liken an earlier GT-R Skyline to an import alternative to the likes of Buick Grand National. Unfortunately, the US manufacturers stopped building tech-laden turbo cars like that, and reverted back to just putting big V8s in Mustangs and F-bodies, instead.

On paper, a Porsche Turbo and a Nissan Skyline GT-R power all four wheels with 6 turbocharged pistons, but there is so much more about them that is different, that it isn't really just shaved cost-cutting corners.

You read way too far into this.

Perhaps...

However, I wouldn't be one to say that a GT-R was basically like a 911 with some corners cut off, either, as I have read into the cars far enough to know a bit about them.

You'll note that I also didn't make that claim.

Oh, I know it was your friend saying it... I am just saying I wouldn't be one to make that claim.

I'd rather be called 'too particular', or having 'read too much into it', than prompt some of the incredulous responses that other commenters have made here due to making a comment like your friend did, which is seemingly somewhat uninformed.
