Allow me to speak... I grew up and lived on Long Island my whole life... went to undergrad in Manhattan so I lived there for 4 years... and my family has a house in the Catskills. All 3 are very different places to live and I'm lucky to be able to experience living in them. Many students/classmates from my undergrad who were born and raised in NYC often had a condescending tone towards me *just because* I am from Long Island and they automatically assumed "Oh, look, you're from suburbia but pretend you're from the city cause you live close to it." No I do not... never did I even. Take the time to know me, you'll actually figure out I really don't care much for NYC life and I'd rather live in the Catskills if I could than Long Island or NYC.

Being from Long Island as well, I approve. There are some nice people but an overwhelming majority are just stupid, rude, stuck up and spoiled brats who think they are something special because they have some $$$. As for growing up in NYC other than there being lots of places to go it sucks. Its loud, there are tons of people just chain smoking on every street and everything is just really cramped and crowded. If I couldn't work at the awesome engineering firms there I would have no reason to stay in NY.

I grew up in Northern NJ (Michigan now) but we used to vacation in NY State (Greenwood Lake if you know it).

I loved it up there, and I hate NYC, overcrowded, rude, dirty, and no reason to be there.
