In my Graphic Arts (read: dicking around in Photoshop) class today, the cute kinda- semi-gothish girl that sits in the corner saw that I was looking at Jalopnik as she walked to her desk. She said that she sometimes checks the site, but the frequent spelling and grammar errors keep her away (she's got a point, but I can't resist Torch and the boyz). She claimed that she was really into cars. Dubious, I asked her what her favorite car was I expected to hear something like "I like Aston Martins," or, "the Veyron is pretty cool." Instead, she said that she it was a three-way tie between the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, RS2 Avant and Saab 900 SPG. EEEEKKKK. She was wearing a Built to Spill shirt, too. DOUBLE EEEEKKKK. And it's not like she's a humorless chump or conceited popular girl. She's a good type of weird in a strong shade of down-to-earth. I could go on...

Never let her go?
Your argument is invalid, since she said RS2 Avant.

well, looks like you'll have to marry this one. Also, she came to you, so you are obligated to ask her out.

Target acquired. Proceed with intent.

Hmm, you should ask her what's her opinion on brown manual transmission diesel wagons. That's the litmus test of a jalop, right?

RS2 Avant?! Fluffy approves.

Do you live near any race tracks at all? If yes, you have a date guaranteed. Just ask her out as soon as possible and be happy and stuff!

I hope she's not just a distopian dream girl.

Maybe the mainstream ones...

I'm going to be the voice of reason here. Make sure that you like her first. Liking cars is a cool extra but if you don't like her for her then "you're gonna have a bad time".

I totally agree. She seems really cool though.

She said that the grammar drove her away from the front page... so... I dunno... She could be lurking around here. IS IT YOU?

I'm near enough to Pacific Raceways. I've been in my adult friend's 1985 BMW 325i, but he didn't let me drive it... :( We went karting, though. Not exactly carting weather in Seattle right now, though.

I'm preparing all my indie band t-shirts for hard rotation and service.

Then by all means you're cleared for take off captain!

Noooooo. I'm a freakin' grammar terrorist! I think imperfect writing skills are jalop themselves. Theyre not perfect therefore unique.

Another Southsounder! Taker to LeMay Museum in Tacoma! You can even have lunch there as you look out over some very pretty corvettes, a Tucker, and a Packard or two. Then explore the other 4 levels! They also have some simulators which are a blast (they cost extra $ but heck if she's worth it...) and its, wait for it, inside! So, you know, you won't freeze to death. Plus if you're from Seattle or somewhere that's not Tacoma, you'll have a nice drive to chat.

I love that place. That's where I saw this thing, whatever it is.

Hell yah! Don't know how far away you live but every first tuesday of the month they have a brown bag lunch where an important person (like head curator or ceo or head of collections) talks about their experience with cars or whatever they are interested in. The last guy talked about the history of lincoln, the lady before him talked about how she goes about researching the history of a car. Its very interesting.

Are there any indoor karting tracks near you? I know it's not the greatest of karting weather anywhere aside from Florida right now.

I'll have to look into that. I have school most Tuesdays, though. :(

Haha, yeah, there's a K1 Speed in Redmond. I was thinking of Pacific Raceways' epic kart facility, but they're probably not open right now, as we just finished 3 weeks of low-to-mid 20s in Seattle.

yah its a weird time. Glad I graduated and don't really have a 'real' job yet. It means I get to do cool things like this. I'm probably the youngest at these things by at least 30 years. what school do you go to?

Ingraham. I went to Garfield freshman year, but I transferred before last year for a couple of reasons. Ingraham is the last school in the Seattle Public School District with an autoshop, but the stancers have stolen a lot of our equipment, including the engine scanner. These are the guys who taped my friend's doors shut and stuck gum on his door handle because they think he's gay.

At first I was like "AUTOSHOP! HELL YAH!" And then I was like, "da Fuck? What douchbags." Man that sucks. Not cool at all. Stealing equipment and judging people for who they are (or what they are merely thought to be) is so not cool. Well at least you wont have to be around those guys forever and neither will your friend. Good luck with the terrible people (high school isn't really all that important once you've graduated) and that totally awesome girl!

That's definitely rare. the only person I've seen go on Jalopnik in public is some guy in church that sat in front of me. While the sermon droned on, the guy in front of me was surfing on gawker blogs.

Sounds like an open door for a conversation.
As for not caring for the FP... well, I stopped reading it a long time ago. Every once in a while I'll tune in, usually if it's shared in Oppo. She may just want you to know she has some sort of intellectual standards and isn't fond of knuckle-dragging illiterate apes. (Edit, did not mean to insinuate the FP is written by them. the commenters, however....)
But she approached you, sounds like an awesome woman with things in common, go forth and be friends!

Did you jump on that Texas Rallysport discount to get that helmet? They look nasty (in a good way).

Heh, nope. This was the Simpson one—I had it long before TRS ventured into helmet sales. :o)
