But forgot how cobbled together the bed appears to be.

The overall number of body styles gm offered on such a low volume machine was impressive.

Except the H1 has independent suspension all around, portal axles, a diesel engine, front rear and center lockers (only the Jeep Rubicon has front lockers). Not to mention most of the Hummer's underneath bits are identical to the ones from the military vehicle, so it was designed with uncompromising durability in mind.

I love the brute with all my heart.

But that Jeep doesn't run with an H1.

Great video. It's always a shame when I see one of these as a fashion accessory, blinged out and city driven. I have to ask you, would you rather have an alpha or the g65 6x6 for offroading? Or is there another offroad monster that can compare?

That 6x6 is pretty rad, but I don't think it can match the capabilities of the H1 going places it shouldn't go. But for desert and sand conditions the 6x6 would probably be better. I don't know what really is in the same realm as the H1 as far as capability wise, unless you talk about custom trail rigs. They are purpose built and are pretty much the go anywhere machine as long as it doesn't involve tight canyons. . .

"The overall number of body styles gm offered on such a low volume machine was impressive."

It isn't a GM product, it's an AM General one. Don't let the "General" name confuse you into thinking "General Motors", AM General actually has roots in AMC and Jeep (and their forebears), but not GM. GM eventually bought the "Hummer" trademark and sold most of the H1-type Hummers to the public, but the vehicle itself was designed, built, sold to the military and early civilian customers all by AM General.

It does have a GM engine, and the H2 and H3 are all GM, however.
