I'm watching the forecast and I can't tell how bad it is going to be here in southwestern Connecticut. I might wait to see what things look like in the morning and if need be, make the swap then. know I'll need to put them on sooner or later; I'm just being a bit lazy tonight. Lazy and warm.

Swap two tonight. And two in the morning.
Productivity perfection.

Depends what rubber you are running now. If all-seasons go ahead and procrastinate. But. I made the mistake, once, of leaving aggressive summer rubber on and was almost immobile in 3/4 inch of snow. So if that sounds more like your car's current shoes maybe go on the side of caution and swap now. I'd suggest better a day too soon than a day too late.

OEM rubber with about 3k miles on it. I'm thinking it will be all right.

If it's cold enough to be thinking about snow, you ought to have winter tyres on already. They give more grip in colder weather, not just snow.
Unless you're talking about proper snow tyres with super-aggressive tread and/or studs.

I usually wait until the evening before, then do it after dark. In the cold. Running tires to and from the shed via wheelbarrow. One of my neighbors usually pokes his head out the door and yells, "Ah, the sounds of winter!"
One of these years, I'll do it on some mild weekend afternoon before it snows.
