We all know that a person's car choice will often reflect on their personality. How about we try to do it the other way? I'll give you a description of a person and you'll try to come up with a perfect car for them.

You may post cars that are reasonably within reach for the described person, or ones that aren't but seem like they would suit them perfectly (although I'd prefer you stick to the former choice). Also, try to stick to mass produced cars. I know that hot rods are cool, but I'd rather you keep it within reason.

Person 1:

A woman around 50, working as a nurse, 5'3" tall. She just got her driving license recently and is a terrible driver who had to practice her commute to work before she attempted it by herself. She's utterly terrified of driving, often kerbs her wheels because she sticks very close to the edge of the road, doesn't drive in bad conditions, and is completely confused by any sort of non typical situation on the road. She needs a car to drive to work each day, it's a 15 mile commute to a small town outside of the city she lives in. She's unlikely to drive anywhere else by herself. She lives with her husband and a 20 year old son, her other kids are already on their own. Nobody in her family cares about cars in the slightest and they're about average in terms of income. She can only drive an automatic.

Person 2:

A 22 year old dude, 5'7" tall, dark hair, works as a technician in a theatre. He's very geeky, uses pocket protectors, and likes bow ties. While he's typically shy in social situations he loves social media. He lives in a small town with his parents and a younger brother who just got his license. Neither he nor his family cares about cars and he's not beyond sitting on the bodywork or putting stickers all over the interior. He has next to none technical knowledge about automobiles and has already had a fair share of small accidents (driving into bollards, understeering out of a roundabout). He uses his car to get to work (about 10 miles away) and as a general runabout. He can drive a manual.

Person 1: any beige.. but I'm feeling a 2008 Lancer ES Sportback, she got it dealer approved used in CVT.

Kinja'd!!!

She was lured in by the dealer claiming it still has 5 years left on its drive train warranty. A hub cap is already missing.

Person 2: more difficult, they probably inherited their car from their grandparents or bought from a relative or friend of the family.. but with an Australian flair I will say it's a Toyota Lexcen

Kinja'd!!!

They inherited it from their grandparents, 91 model with less than 100kkms. Literally only driven to church on sundays before he got it. He had no idea it's a badge engineered VN Commodore until he had to replace the serpentine belt after letting it squeal for 5 months.

Number one is probably a Camry. Duh.

PT Cruiser. Very geeky kinda car with a manual available. Plus, it is okay to be beaten up.

thanks, I nearly thought a VZ commodore for the Nurse, but re-read she's only 5'3" so she'd be put off by larger cars.

My 2nd choice for the technician would be a Daihatsu Charade. I don't think I've seen one of those with straight body panels in a loooong time.

Gotta say, you got the 'from a family member' bit dead on. The person I based this on indeed bought his low mileage car from his aunt.

in my experience it's pretty common for people with no interest in cars. Unless their parents are the kind that insists their children buy new cars because of a stigma against 2nd hand.

You're in Germany though right? so feel free to exchange the Commodore/Lexcen for the Opel Astra... probably the most analogous for how it fits into the car culture.. even though the Omega is it's closest in size.

1: Corolla, Accord, Fusion AWD, Sonata, Soul, Altima

2: Accord, Civic, Cobalt, Focus, older Fusion, Forte Koup, Rio 5 Door, Sonic, Cruse

Basically, they should both get something reliable, affordable to maintain and run and something common so it can be found cheap/resold easy.

Also, 90% of car shoppers really want an Accord. An old quote from this site.
