I've had my wheels dipped for a while, with no ill effects, but I knew the day would come where I would have to get new tires, and the dream would come crashing down. Well, I got new tires this week and I mentioned it to them, I basically said "the plastidip is gonna peel off, don't be worried about it" and they chimed in "No, we've changed tires on plastidipped wheels before and had no problems" - luckily, I knew better, and was only slightly disappointed to see this when I got the car back.

So it's time to choose a new color. The wheels were previously dipped the color of my center cap, but it was way too orange compared to the gold I originally wanted. What next? I'm getting new wheels in spring so maybe it's time to just go nuts and spray them bright blue

Looks like a white g35? With white you're kinda spoiled for choice, IMO red or white would look best.

I see that your car is white, so I would choose a colour that gives a nice contrast to that, like black or a very dark gunmetal grey. I'd advise against the blue, it might be fun for a few days, but there's always the risk of getting tired of driving a clown car all too soon.

I had a flat repair done on my Golf that I had plasti-dipped and they managed to do it without damaging the plasti-dip, I think the key is to lay several layers on the outer edge (this also protects the wheel from curb rash.) So when you re-dip them put several coats on and then next time you get tires see what happens.

And did they place the wheel weights on plasti-dip or clean wheel surface?

Before I put the wheels in the car (after plastidipping them) I peeled the spray off the inside of the wheel, so it's on, at most, some brake dust.

We sprayed our Highlanders wheels red, so purple is probably best

What color are your wheels now? It all depends how many coats you need. If you've got silver wheels, you could do it in 3 cans, so that's like 21 bucks, but I'd get 4 cans to be safe. If you have darker wheels then you definitely need 4 cans.

If it was my car and I know I would have new wheels soon, then I would go all out with the plastidip. I would pick 4 most obnoxious colors and paint one on each wheel just to troll around town. :)

They're white right now, but the original paint is fading and chipping pretty bad.

2-3 cans then. Clean them good, and use some tire shine on your tires before you spray them, and clean up the wheels, the tire shine makes it easier to peel up the plastidip after you spray.

I had purple wheels on my older car for a few months, I liked it. Also keep in mind this was right before plastidip got popular, so it was rattlecan'd … that was a bitch.

I've heard of it, never tried it. I have easier access to tire shine than index cards :) But yea, go nuts!

Well it was 400, so no manny, but I cut the exhaust and had glorious V8 sounds. It was a fun beater for a couple years … I occasionally have day dreams about getting another one someday and getting a 300 with a built up turbo.

They would have cleaned it so they stick better, but the cleaner doesn't remove plasti-dip that's why I asked.

I recommend index cards they are so muck quicker than anything else.
