I want to make this trip., driving from Ottawa to Chisasibi QC, on the shores of James Bay. My house is so close to the wilds of the true north!!

I think my Cavalier could make this trip, there is no reason why not. It would be in the summer time, and the route is paved. As long as I got gas in Amos, I could make it to the one and only fuel stop at km 381. My girlfriend said it sounds boring, but I dunno it would be really cool to stick my hand in the Bay. It's truly nearly the arctic up that far. I was about an hour up that way today, and you realize just how remote that area gets...just 20kms from Ottawa!

Edit: If anyone has made this trip...feel free to chime in.

I'd do it. Road trips are the best for of travel. I met a guy today in an MG TC and I asked him why he had wrapped the fenders in leather. Its because he drove it to Alaska. And Mexico. I want to be 'that guy' who takes a classic car on very long road trips.

I was researching this trip recently myself. I was wondering if you could drive to Hudson Bay and found this route is about it. There really is a lot of inaccessible land in Canada. It does seem to be a bit of a monotonous drive though.

This route isn't "about it". It's it! The one and only route to James Bay, and by extension Hudson's Bay.

By the way, if you want a really remote road, try the Transtagia. It's a road that goes inland from the James Bay route. It goes about 660 km to a dam. The literal "middle of nowhere", you are about 742 kms from the nearest town.

you should be able to, that road is mostly used by pickup trucks and suv. you will see trees, trees and more trees. not really worth it unless you are going fishing or something. I went fishing there about 20 years ago, even if it's almost my back yard. I live in rouyn-noranda, about 100 kms from amos.

I heard the scenery is a bit underwhelming. Thanks for chiming in! Kind of like northern ontario, trees, trees, and more trees. I am into fishing though.

I think it`s paved (right?) so the car should handle it. It's fairly reliable. What kind of precautions did you take? I would probably mount summer tires on my winter steel rims, and carry a mounted full sized spare. Maybe I should also take a battery?

i know that it is paved from amos to matagami, but after that don't know.

You know that it it about a 900 km drive from amos to Chisasibi??

you plan to sleep where, not to sure if there is a hotel or something overthere.

we went there in a van with all our gear, boat, food, camper and gas, lot's of gas. the van did have LT tires. you should be fine with a full size spare. but bring a gas can or 2...

Yeah, I know it`s quite far. I was planning on camping most of the time, there is campsites along James Bay Route. At the end I was going to stay in Radisson. (there some small hotels there). Was thinking a gas can would be a good choice. I would come up with an appropriate supply of food, that`s for sure.
