Help me come up with a price for this car. here is the description
1986 BMW 524td (Turbo Disesel) leaks oil from seals/gaskets around the top of the engine. Was running fine otherwise
Yeah...that is it. He has it listed at $1,000. do you think that is a fair price or a good deal? It sounds like it needs a valve cover gasket which is $50 and about an hour of time. I know NOTHING about diesels too. Are they a lot harder to work on than regular petrol?
Before Oppo freaks out and just sees diesel and automatically says BUY BUY BUY. remember this is a 27 year old BMW diesel that only came with the Autotragic. 0-60 in about 12 seconds in its prime and that may be some cancer in the wheel wells.

I'd say hit him at $800. I don't think $1000 is a bad deal, but cheaper is better.

Depends where you are. The 524td is a rare beast some places.

Any running car is worth $1000, diesel or no. And most places exempt diesel from inspection too.

East Coast of the USA. It is somewhat rare here, but rare doesn't mean desirable also

True rare does not equal awesome. Personally I'd have a hard time at any price with a slusher. I'd try to knock it down bit, seems to me like the guy considers it dead to him. Diesels are not harder in my experience but when modding for extra power it's whole different country as far as what needs done.

If it is a head gasket, 500 should take it. 800 or 1000? How much lower can you go for a running, somewhat taken car of rare car?
