Sounds about right. My sister isn't big on cars either, particularly when I tried explaining to her how a rotary works.

There haven't been many dynos done with this, but some person did it with just this header and a tune and got about a 18hp gain, so that is pretty sweet for just a bolt on.

Those look really nice, any extra bungs for data logging? Are you going to run an ap? Do these(brz/gt86) even need that? I read somewhere else there are USB tuning solutions? As in USB=>obd2 from a laptop? I want to do a cat less down pipe but I'm scared of the noise.

That sounds great. I imagine that will add some more punch to the low to midrange part of the powerband.

There are a few USB tuning solutions and I don't know how I feel about any of them. One requires you to buy a license to use, and when the license is on the ECU you can't flash any other program. The others I haven't looked much into. There aren't any extra bungs for data logging though, which I don't think is a big deal
If you are going catless downpipe find one with resonators, you should be golden then. The noise should be kept down and rasp shouldn't be any worry.

JDL Auto Design. I would highly recommend their headers, they even make one for people that want to turbocharge their FRS. Plus if they make a header for any car, it is a work of art.

You already have an exhaust to go with the headers?

Yup, this is the last piece of the pie. To be honest, the headers and frontpipe(aka downpipe) are the most important parts. The only reason you should switch out the catback is to reduce some rasp and unnecessary loudness.

Slightly off topic question: Had lunch with a co-worker who owns a BRZ. Says the engine has to be removed to change the spark plugs (according to the internets). He (or anybody else) hasn't had to do it yet, but I call BS. In your opinion, true or not?

I do infact call BS. Yes it is a pain, but it can be done through the wheel wells. You just have to remove the wheels. Also, thank you very much.

Sometime in the near future, yes. Don't know the best path. Lots of people do ECUtek, but I don't know if I like that or not though. What are you going to be using?
Also, aren't the headers supposed to be out sometime soon, I though I heard sometime this month.

It's actually easier than they lead to be.

I would look and see how far the engine can flex. But that's how I did it in a Forester and a couple Imprezas.
Undo motor mounts, undo the exhaust if needed, Make sure you aren't stretching the harness and what not, and do work.

I think it can move a bit. To replace the overpipe you have to hoist the engine up a few inches without removing any mounts.

I would see what others say, but you may be able to move the engine on one mount and do it that way.
I have done valve covers that way too.

Yeah that's what I heard as well, I bought myself a bunch store credit at a %15 discount during their black friday sale so I'm pretty much locked in to nameless at this point. Just waiting on release now.
As for tuning, I'll be either going with the Openflash Tablet (if I can get some local tuners who are willing to tune on it) or ECUtek and getting Bob at Drift Office to do the tune, he has been getting some really good results with other N/A setups I've seen.

I might do something with ECUtek and Moto-East because they own a BRZ with these exact headers so they probably know what they are doing. I was looking at OFT as well, people seem to really like it a lot.

The only real downside I see to ECUtek is the inability of the user to revert back to a completely stock tune.
YSI-what can brown do for you

Because the license is still on there. It shouldn't be too big of a deal, unless the dealer checks the ECU. I don't know why they would unless you have some sort of engine problem.
Decay buys too many beaters

Yeah, but I'd be one of those paranoid guys who would want to revert it to stock before it got anywhere near a dealer. I mean what's to say they would not check when I, for example, go in to get my fuel pump replaced (again)?

Well it is when the engine is hot, but it usually happens during colder weather. Maybe I just notice it then, but that seems to be the pattern.

I just explain it to people like this:
There is a Dorito that spins inside a peanut,
the Red Bull is injected in to the peanut in the left part of the top,
the Dorito rotates causing the red bull to compress against the right side of the peanut,
then a bic is flicked lighting the red bull on fire,
this causes the red bull to explode making the Dorito to rotate more,
the exploded red bull is then farted out the lower left side of the peanut

The dealer service manuals that are floating out in internet-land do say that the engine needs to be removed. I'll try to find the link when I get home.
However, I'm sure it's not strictly required, or at least I hope so.
