The !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , the MR kit you can build with a wrecked WRX, has gotten a bit more livable. They showed it with a soft top (as opposed to the previous no top) at SEMA, though I haven't been able to find anything about where the shelter goes when you don't want to use it, or how much it costs, or if it comes with, you know, windows.
Even so, I think I'm sold on the 818. I've always wanted a Seven, but I think it's been usurped. You can buy the 818 kit for $10k, a crashed WRX for under $5k, and if you have a garage and some spare time, you can build it in about 200 hours.
I want it. Even untuned, that's around 250 hp (depending on your WRX of choice) spread over 1,800 lbs. And for $15k, it would make a phenomenal track toy.

Are they not going to offer a coupe version?

A buddy of mine has his donor already. Ordered the kit, with an expected delivery date of Dec 2014. Should be an interesting build.

I doubt it. The doors don't even have windows. They set a goal of 818 kg, which they reached, so if they put a roof on it, they'd have to change the name or cut the weight elsewhere, which would be tough.

I really like that! 15 for Lotus performance out of the wreckage of a Subaru? That's a pretty nice deal if you ask me.

I completely forgot about this thing. I like how it turned out.

On one hand: Oh shit, $15k Supercar!!!!
On the other hand: Well...it's not the prettiest car ever and...uhh...I don't think I'd want to go supercar speeds in something I and I alone built.

I've wanted to build a FFR Cobra forever now, even helped a pal build his 8 years ago. But since FFR came out with the 818 I'd seriously take a look at one.

i wonder why they set it at 1800lbs. And then call it that. doesn't that mean they're constrained to that? I totally want this.. I could afford it but I don't have the space to build one at the moment.
my main issue is a lack of side window option. think of an ingenious way i can just attach them so in case a rogue rain storm rolls through I'm not scrambling for a tarp....

Well, I'm sure if they made it lighter, no one would be mad.
And I agree about the windows. I imagine there's some kind of folding plastic ones included with the top, but I can't find any evidence of it.

Definitely. I know it's a year away, but remember to do an Oppost about it.

Oh, I definitely like the look of it. Like how the MR2 should have evolved. But you have a point about the dangers.

i assume there is absolutely zero storage on the car too. thats also annoying. I'd pay $50 for a altered dashboard that has a glove compartment....

Yeah, and I'd like to see a small frunk area under the nose, too.
