I'm worried they are going to make the V-8 option quite expensive to help with their CAFE numbers. I hope I'm wrong.

I wouldn't be too worried, that's what the gas guzzler tax is all about, and this years v8 doesn't get it, and it carries over. It just ocures to me that the only thing that CAFE really does is provide incentive to large car makers and punish niche ones. Since its a Fleet average, and a sample of 20 is much easier to average than a sample of 2 or 3

Right that's what I meant. Ford is going to want to incentivize people to get the turbo 4 banger over the V8 and will thus make the V8 only available on higher trim levels.

Hope you're right! My guess would be that its safe through 2016, but if the 2025 standards stay the same- I would guess something will have to give.

I'm not really saying anything I shouldn't by saying you can still expect a GT and GT Premium. GT's will get V8s like usual.

Exactly how I feel. If the Jalop article leaked today is true, it doesn't seem like much. Maybe they are focusing on the drivetrain ?

Not sure where you are getting your data from, but I just pulled up Wards data, and for MY 2013 Mustangs the take rate for the V6 is 46.5% and 53.5% for the V8 (this includes the 5.0L and 5.4L engine) Its not an insignificant number of units especially considering the mustangs "footprint" in the CAFE calculations.

Twas a bit contradictory. As someone who likes the current retro styling- I thought it was quite revolutionary. However, they managed to keep enough of old styling bits to remind me where it came from.

Ford obviously had to walk a tricky line and I think they did a great job. I think it would be a real shame to turn your back on such an iconic car with great lineage.

Come on now …. even the most biased of Mustang fans can see its not revolutionary. Same proportion, same styling cues, everything is in the same place, just tweaked. I'm not hating it, but there is no need to call it something its not.

I've driven the new one. It is a very nice improvement over the last gen but it's not leaps and bounds better. What it is a million times better for is Ford. Global car, economies of scale, and all that.
