OK guys I have a question for you.

Kinja'd!!!

What do you think of Cadillac lifespans? And by that I mean mileage. For example: I know my Mercury Milan has the potential to last to 175-200k miles while being properly maintained. (Same would be said for a similar Fusion)

What would a CTS be able to handle? An STS? An SRX?

Just wondering, thanks for the advice. Be honest I don't own one you aren't going to hurt my feelings.

I shopped for a CTS a while back and saw several 100k+ mile examples, I was looking specifically at the one with the 3.6 DI.

Considering many of the engines used in Cadillac's line up are being used across a wide range of GM products (for example the 3.6 DI is used in the Camaro), I'd say lifespan is likely comparable to your Milan. The wouldn't purposely make Cadillac's more or less reliable than Chevy's.

Isn't any regular car of the last two decades that receives properly maintained and not overly hooned able to last 200k miles? With the exception of a few with notorious transmission or otherwise woos maybe.

I don't think anyone knows in regards to the current generation, but I don't see any reasons the previous generations should last the course with proper maintenance.

With proper and regular maintenance, I can see will over 250,000. My F-150 has 236,000+ and still runs great. I am a regular maintenance type.

Yeah I should've been more specific, I was really referring to like 04-07 models.

That's what I was really looking for, to see if there were anything drastically bad on certain models.

Stay away from northstars, and be aware than the interior isn't going to age well and you will be fine.

Yeah I the northstar is definitely on the list of "difficult" motors.

The interior will probably be nicer than my Milan so it's all up.

And my mother in law built it. Could be a plus of a minus LOL (she worked on the line building CTS seats for a loooong time.

I can tell you that Consumer Reports dinged the CTS and the SRX for long term reliability. I don't remember the details of what specifically they did not like.

Any car with proper maintenance can last well over 200k miles. If you're buying used and intend on keeping the car for a long time, you should research the price of a future replacement engine to see if it's worth taking the plunge. That way if anything goes wrong down the road, you can do a swap and continue to enjoy the car for many, many more years.

Pick up a copy or borrow from the local library the most recent new car guide. They will have some info for previous model years.

It was probably the placement of the window switches

Maybe...but if memory serves correct it was more vital components. CR may be a bunch of toaster-testers but they do provide good info on long term reliability tests. For example the Mercury Milan that Montego posted which is based off of the Ford Fusion is consistently ranked one of the best used car buys due to the reliability.
