Not sure if I'm behind or not on this one but I just got the January '14 issue and this is it.
The !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
While I'm not really a fan of Cadillac's. I really want to like them but there's something about them, I can't figure out what it is, but there's something that makes me not like them. I'm sure one day, I'll finally grow to like them but for now I have to give credit where credit's due. Congrats Cadillac/GM! whatever you did you clearly did it right.
If anyone's curious, here are the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for #1:
In no particular order.
BMW 4-Series
Mazda 3
Mazda 6
Jaguar F-Type
Mercedes-Benz S-Class
Kia Forte
Chevrolet Corvette
(Also given my love of Porsche, I should note that the 2014 Cayman was one of the 22 original contenders for the top spot)
What say you all?

Pfft, Motor Trend "Car of the Year" is a joke.
In 1980, it was the Chevy Citation.
In 1983, the Renault Alliance.
In 1995, the Chrysler Cirrus won the prize.
The next year, in 1996, the Dodge Caravan.
Clearly on a roll, in 1997 it was the Chevy Malibu.
And in 2007, it was the Toyota Camry.

2 mazdas in the finals comes as a surprise personally, since the 3's interior is a bit disappointing, but it's good to see them kicking ass with the press!
the 4 series is no surprise, since it's a sleek 3 series coupe for the people who got bored of the odd number.
personally, I think the Merc is better, but because it's twice the price, give or take $5000, I see why the caddy got the award.
I'm a fan of this new Cadillac. They're GM's way of saying "oh, you though only zee Germans can pull of fast sedans? Where's your 3 series now!?"

Personally I don't read Motor Trend enough to know all of that. But due to my minor dislike of Cadillac, I think it could have been anything else. Everyone's got their own opinions though.

While none of those are cars for me perosnally, it's hard to argue that the Caravan wasn't historically pretty important in the development of a huge segment.

I'm actually surprised how well Cadillac is doing compared to the upper-echelon of auto makers(BMW and Merc).

You're overlooking a couple of years.
Last year, the Tesla Model S won.
2011 - Chevy Volt
2009 - Nissan GT-R
2008 - CTS
2004 - Prius (I hate this car, but yeah, it was groundbreaking)
2002 - Thunderbird
There are a few more that I could name, but I wouldn't call this list full of jokes.
