I need a new car.

STAT.

Jetta is, really not a good winter car... Or anything other than gas mileage car, at this point.

Wastegate, stuck. Only getting 7psi boost.

Needs brakes AGAIN.

Needs belts AGAIN.

Tick tick tick, goes the emergency brake.

Thermostat? WHAT'S THAT?

Blower? Bearings - GONE.

Shifter linkage? More like butter churn.

So yeah. Sounds great right? So I'm in the market...

I'm thinking 900 or 9-3... Am I an idiot? Budget about $5k. CAD, btw.

Check the username.

Oh yeah.

Anyways, a classic-gen 900 (80s) probably wouldn't be the best choice, but I've never owned one. That's just because they're old. Late 90s, early 00s and if you find a good one, then you should be smokin' with fire, as they say. Personally, I'd throw caution to the wind and get one of these bad boys. Yum.

Vague memories of when I was 3 years old are coming back to me

My Mom's car was even that color. Maybe all Peugeots were though in the early 80s, I dunno...

Recently located a '97 900 manual, with about 80k on the clock for 3k USD so they are out there. Strongly considering it. I hear good things about the longevity of the engines.

Just throwing this out there, if one car is giving you reliability troubles do you really want to buy another car that could easily give you reliability troubles? Seems like you could find yourself in a bad spot.

I would go with a pre '93 900 (I think) because I like the older 900's. In terms of reliability, Saab's tend to be pretty good, but it's usually expensive when something breaks.

I've got a 90 Jetta diesel,

And it's a maintenance HEADACHE.

Yes it's good on fuel... But I've lost more trying to keep the belts from squeaking every 10 sec.

Hence why I'm not looking at an OG 900... Something a bit newer. 1995/6 and up

It's a 1990, TD, with 265km.

No rust, been undercoated forever. Just needs love I can't keep giving it. For Ontario Safety it needed one back brake, hah. But it's the other day-to-day things that are getting my goat.

Excellent thought! I didn't think to look at these, although I should have. I'm ready to get out of the 80s, so a 240 740 are out... These, could happen.

I'll admit I have limited Saab knowledge but I have 2 friends with newer Saabs. The first spent 14k on a '07 9-3 Aero and has very little go wrong with it. The other though spent 4.5k on a '04 9-3 2.0T and its a shitbox. He openly says it was a bad purchase & since its worth so little now he is just going to drive it until its done.

Just thought I'd share.

Ehh the only car I've owned under 5k was a SC400 I got for 1.5k. It was a great beater for 2 years and even when I killed it, the engine was still strong at 210k. But it was only good for 20-22mpg, not sure if you are looking for a commuter car or anything though.

My commute is 1k. I'm looking for something a bit comfier and faster than the Jetta... V6 and down probably, though.

Had a manual 96 900SE (Turbo)

Bought it cheap, was in great shape, black on black.

Added a $10 boost control valve, weeeeee.

Took it on a road trip all over Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota

Night panel mode was pretty cool.

Cable operated clutch was a little stiff from the beginning, LCD readout was also wonky, then the power steering hard line sprung a pin hole leak (new line was $250) and then the key started getting stuck in the ignition.

I still miss it. ;-(
