What highly-regarded car brands just make you go "Meh" while everyone around you proceeds to lose their minds at the sight/mention of them? Alternatively, also provide an exception to this rule- a model from that brand that you actually really like.

My list:

Ferrari:

Kinja'd!!!

Exception:

Kinja'd!!!

Berlinetta Boxer 512. (I had to try really hard to find a Ferrari I give a single fuck about. But if I were to have one Ferrari, it'd be this one.)

Mercedes:

Kinja'd!!!

Exception:

Kinja'd!!!

Sure, like an Mercedes it's still fat and bloated, and those orange indicators are horrendous, but dammit! It's a V8, RWD station wagon called the Hammer!

Porsche:

Kinja'd!!!

Exception:

Kinja'd!!!

I know, all Porsches look the same, so I'll make this easy: It's a Cayman S. Proper manual transmission, proper mid-engined layout, and proper styling. Rode in one of these at Skip Barber and had my mind blown. The only Porsche I'd spend money on buying.

Lamborghini:

Kinja'd!!!

Exception:

Kinja'd!!!

I have no clue why, but the Aventador just calls to me...

Alfa Romeo (I'm sorry, but the front end of nearly every Alfa is just butt-ugly. It looks like someone tacked the front of a pair of g-string panties on it and called it a grill.)

Kinja'd!!!

Exception:

Kinja'd!!!

The things I would do for a GTV6 would land me in prison and in hell.

Damn you for telling me that the Hammer can in wagon format!!! I'm already broke from spending money on cars and now I want one of those, haha.

If you like the Cayman S then you should be as excited as me to see what Porsche does with the Cayman R replacement. Hopefully it's a bit nuts

My M1 in Forza was so badass that it broke the Group J S650 race series and the regulations had to be changed, lol. Such an awesome car.

I almost included BMW, but I also really like the E30, E24, and 850Csi. That's too many exceptions, haha.

Also, I'm not sure if you can count the Quattro system as FWD-based, since nearly all of the engines are longitudinally mounted.

I totally agree on Ferarri. I think they are the absolute worst. They are unnecessarily exclusive. Their cars look as much alike to.me as porsche does jezza. They require certain cars are stored under their control after a person buys them....they require you buy X amount of ferarris before you can buy a certain model. (Or at least thars what I have been told and seen) Mostly they are just kind of ugly. I have no exception...the 458 is gross and I know no one will like that.

If I had the money for a ferarri I would make the most obvious choice and go with mclaren. If I already owned those my money would go directly to aston martin/noble, a used TVR, Pagani or almost any other car maker in history before ferarri.

I know this wasnt a thousand words or pictures but I tried.

Lamborghini

Kinja'd!!!

Their recent cars, and even just post-Countach, really are outlandish, plastic and cheap looking. Having a crazy reputation doesn't mean that you need to abandon all class and tact. The Countach was crazy, but still observed the most rudimentary elements of car design. The Veneno looks like the Devel 16's hotter sister, who isn't really all that hot.

Exception

Kinja'd!!!

This is...droolworthy.

Audi

Kinja'd!!!

Even the R8 don't get me excited. It has a great shape, it sounds awesome, it goes fast, it handles well, it's kind of restrained (at least for a supercar). The same goes for essentially their whole lineup: pretty, restrained, classy, FAST , but nothing makes me excited about them. There is only one exception, really...

Exception

Kinja'd!!!

Because duh.

Pagani

Kinja'd!!!

I know, I know, just hear me out. The first Zonda was incredible. It was insanely advanced, and nothing like anything else. It captured what Lamborghini captured with the Countach, really: it was absolutely insane without being gaudy and useless. With the Huayra, Pagani has illustrated Lamborghini's issue, and I think a more overriding problem. Once a company becomes known for insane and standoutish, it feels like it has to live up to that, and in both Lambo and Pagani's cases it was a recipe for full-scale, functional Hot Wheels. The Huayra is kind of cool with its purposeful madness, but it just doesn't excite me. At all. And the million special edition Zondas, too.

Exception

Kinja'd!!!

The Zonda Cinque. This is one of the only cars I've gotten sweaty palms because of the first time I saw one. And when I played the Forza 4 demo and it was in there, my heart actually went into my throat.

Bugatti

Kinja'd!!!

Hey, look a Phaeton! Or is it a lowered Passat? It's not very loud... BUT GOSH, IT'S FAST ( only in a straight line ). There appears to be another Veyron hangin' out in the background. Oh, no it's a Bentley. And the vintage ones are kinda meh, too, IMO.

Exception

Kinja'd!!!

Yeah, right? So rounded. And springy-sproungy. Dat fin.

There are others, too, but I need to do actual things rather than play cars.

My take is that once everyone starts making a 1000+hp, $1,000,000+ 250+mph car, there really isn't any exclusivity anymore. Not that I'll ever have one, but I feel like they lose their specialness.

HOW DARE THEE?!!? ALFA IS GOD! AND WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT LAMBOS?!!?

Now then, shall we move on.

I can't stand anything made by GM. For some reason, it always feels like they aren't really trying to be original, but rather trying to invade someone else's market place. It gets a bit tedious.

Exception: Their 60s and early 70s muscle cars. So much sexiness

Kinja'd!!!

Every STi has been destroyed with 5 inch exhausts and douche bag drivers. Clean ones are ridiculously overpriced. Also, too much turbo lag.

Inexpensive, naturally aspirated, RWD, manual transmission, great handling, (relatively) reliable, fun to drive, semi-rare (for now). Hopefully, it will remain an enthusiast's car because most people think "200 hp? My 2003 Toyota Camry V6 has more than that!"

I'd hate to see the lists of brands that get you going.

Saturn: All the prestige of an American brand with no history and none of those dreadful 3800s or ls motors.

Exception: Saturn Sky Redline RWD turbo 4 cylinder, I'm sorry I only like motors that aren't shared with hundreds of other GM models.

Scion: All the enthusiasm Toyota products are known for with no money wasted on silly things like design or performance or handling.

Exception: FRS, All that Subaru boxer motor nonsense just keeps the center of gravity too low. That and it doesn't look enough like the boxes all my other appliances come in.

Not trying to call you out so much as want to show you the light and let you know the general is waiting with open arms.

The Buick GNX

Kinja'd!!!

Fast in an era when nothing was fast.

The corvair

Kinja'd!!!

A rear engined flat six with a turbo before anyone ever heard of a turbo 911 and made in America.

Corvette

Pretty much any of them besides the c4 is amazing for it's time. The first generation was an American sports car before such a thing existed. The c2 and c3 brought about tons of styling and widespread v8 use. We'll just skip the c4 even though some guys who drink more of the gm kool aid than I do still say it was impressive. The c5 was a return to form for Corvette and is still an amazing performance bargain with a crappy interior and the c6 was more of the same and now we have the c7 which is just amazing.

Kinja'd!!!

The El Camino

Kinja'd!!!

This one is a bit of a stretch as Ford is credited for creating the ute idea but there is no denying GM perfected it and owns the idea of a ute in the minds of america. Take a sawzall to a volvo to make a homemade ute, think they call that a volvochero? Nah, it's a volvamino

Kinja'd!!!

The Suburban

Kinja'd!!!

GM invented the suv, bringing me both pride and shame.

Even when GM doesn't create a category they do a good job chasing it.

Agreed 100% on Lambo and Audi. I just don't get the love for the R8, it's soo... actually it's not soo anything. It's just background scenery to me, like a rock or a tree.

Also, I'd add Aston Martin. They all look the same, which is about as bland as you could make a V8 sports coupe look. Exception: The V8 Vantage
