Why oh why did I think that was a good idea? I turned the heat on when I got back two hours ago, and I'm still seeing my breath inside my house. Warm up, damnit!

Yep, I did. They're OK, thankfully. The houseplants are a bit droopy, though.

What kind of heater?
Because if you have a two stage natural gas furnace, those are awesome.

I set mine at 60 in the cold season. Don't want surprises when I get home.

Dude, you turn heat down not off when you're gone for a while... I'm glad you only had a close call on your pipes.
I was scared shitless last February when my furnace went out during the coldest week in recent history in my area. Of course it died Late Saturday night/ early Sunday just when the daily highs were forecast to be in the low single digits (Farenheit) and the cold snap ended conveniently on that Thursday when the new furnace was installed... Thank God for my wood stove.

Turn your oven on and leave it open. In my old apartment, we'd set the oven to 400, let it heat up for a few minutes, then crack the door open. It'd get the place warm in no time.

great way to get CO poisoning... (unless you have an electric oven. or waiting until its off)
Our damn heater went out the friday before last, just got it fixed this morning. Go figure when texas suddenly has 30* weather...

I keep my thermostat at 58. It keeps the pipes from freezing for the most part and keeps the power bill down. I hate paying for heat. Yet, I don't mind paying for air conditioning. Weird, I know. I feel like I can always put more covers on but there is only so much I can take off.

Thats true. Didn't think too much about that. The apartment had an electric oven, so it was never a concern for us.
