So I got to drive what will probably be the rarest car I get to drive in my lifetime...

a 1-Series BMW Active E, only 700 were made.

The gentleman won the BMW lottery for it (they were using it as a test rig for the new i3) and was able to lease one from BMW, alas they want there car back, and they will not sell it to him.

I am a salesman at a Chevy store, so he is going to replace the Active E with a Volt.

I must say the little 1 series, fit my portly 6'4 350lb+ frame quite nicely!

The little car has almost nonexistent acceleration, (way less than a volt, if thats even imaginable) and the coolest feature about the car, is the VERY aggressive regenerative breaking. I was able to drive the thing the entire time with only modulating the gas pedal. Its very strange indeed.

It is rear-drive, so my first thought of drifting an electric 1 series, was quickly put to rest due to the lack of initial off the line grunt the car had. This leads me to believe the car is programed to do this, because if it wasn't, the electric motors full availability of torque should have been available right off the line.

Overall, I honestly think BMW could have sold that car as is, and a TON of them at that!

I didn't get a chance to take a picture, so heres a generic one...

another interesting note, the gentleman told me the thing weighs over 4,000 pounds, which nearly knocked me out of my chair.

Someone's parents at my school have one. See it almost every day. Gorgeous decal work.

I saw one parked at LAX once, charging. It was next to a plug in Prius, a couple Volts, a Model S and a Leaf. There was also a matte black, blacked out Maybach there.
