Snapped this pic of my ODO and gave me an idea.
This is on 31" MTs, stockers would normally be P225s. 3.55 gears. Thought it would be fun to compare different vehicles. I haven't been around OPPO for too long so sorry in advance if this has been done before! Don't mind the CEL, it's a Jeep thing...
EDIT: This is also in OD, and my Speedo is ~2 mph slow.

I do about 3k rpm in 5th (top) gear in my 1998 jetta with stock diameter tires (wheels are now 17" alloys instead of 14" steelies) at 70mph. I also get somewhere around 30-34mpg. not bad considering it has 205k on the odometer :P

Seems you've been Kinja'd. After posting a pic you'll often have to edit the post and try to add thw picture a second time.

I'm at around 3 grand in 5th gear at 70-75 mph getting 28mpg or so.
2008 Cobalt SS capable of 12 seconds getting almost 30mpg is impressive.

Same as my '08 Civic, 3k in 5th @ 70mph, stock wheel diameter but 17" alloys. 32mpg's.

Lol no problem. Kinja is a bitch.
Should we use a baseline speed for this? What's your speed and RPMs?
Edit: nevermind, I see now. I'll try to do a 75mph cruise if I go out for a drive later lol.
![]() 11/30/2013 at 17:51 |

Picture finally posted! And hmmm. I wonder what a good baseline would be? I cruise at 75 most of the way back to school, not really comfortable (or capable) going faster.

about 3k RPM in 5th at 75 in the E28 with 15" wheels and 55 series tires.

join the "3 grand in fifth" club. Was there some sort of meeting that decreed that all four cylinders should do ~3k rpm in fifth gear at 70? My 98 jetta and Sn210's 2008 civic do the same. We get better gas mileage than you though :P
![]() 11/30/2013 at 18:01 |

But I do 0-60 in 4.3 seconds.
I get there faster.
I win.
lmao

Some sensor in the trans that keeps me from getting in to OD sometimes, haven't had the time to replace it.

3k rpm in 5th gives me about 89 mph.

Miata with the 5-speed, factory diff, and stock 16x6.5's 5-spokes I'm doing about 3k at 60 mph and 3.5k at 70 mph. However, my speedo reads 2 mph higher than I'm actually doing. I'm considering downsizing to lighter 15x6.5's for autocross purposes so I'll be going even slower at the same rpm.

2010 Ford Flex SEL EcoBoost. If I remember correctly 70 MPH is around 1,750 RPM in 6th gear; 80 is a tick over 2,000.

I'll get a video of me at WOT.
I have a video at partial throttle and spinning the tires up to around 80mph
Maybe next week if there is a nice day and I have free time.

70mph for me is around 2250 rpm. No lugging, all happy cruising.
Gotta love the old GTO T-56, keeps my V6 firebird pretty happy.

70MPH in the F150 I have is 2000RPM on the tach. But it's a 351W, so the transmission does full throttle shifts at 4000.
80MPH is roughly 3000RPM on my E300.
I don't have a base point for the Z4, unfortunately.

4k in 6th at 80mph, while getting 16mpg.
Who can guess the car?

gotta be something rotary. At least that's what comes to mind for me with (high revving+not so great mileage)

Thanks to the high strung engine in my S2000 I am in 6th at about 4000 at 70

And we have a winner!
2004 RX8 to be exact.
The tow vehicle gets 1800 at 65mph, towing the racecar.

In fourth gear I'm pulling 3000 rpm at 66 mph.
I want to slide a five speed into my car. But finding them is hard enough, much less with anything else I need.

70 mph is around 2.9-3k rpm. 4 speed auto w/OD '97 Accord.

The usual DD Neon will do 2300 @ 65mph, just shy of 2600 @ 75. My speedo reads a couple MPH fast also...I don't remember the gearing, mainly because it's not the original trans in the car anymore, and I don't remember which model trans is actually in it anymore..
The SL600 (not mine, but I drive it often enough) will puddle around just over 2 grand in OD at 70mph doing a leisurely 25mpg at the same time.
The current driver (a Smart ForTwo, also not mine) has no noise gauge, so I don't know. I also don't enjoy the experience of it on the highway.

3500 rpm at 70 in the GTI. Unsure in the BRZ, but it's pretty high too.
![]() 11/30/2013 at 19:41 |

I'll also join the ~3k in 5th gear. MkIV GTI with the 1.8T. Really want to grab another gear on the highway to bump my mpg into the 30s.

I deliver a giant middle finger to society even when stationary and I can be a rolling middle finger for well over 300 miles on just 10 gallons of gas. It's not about speed, it is about hanging there, in their mirrors....
waiting.
...Or just parking next to a jaaaaaaaaaaaaag with your crapcan because you can.

2k at 60 mph. I wish I could get it lower but it's also not major high.

I can do that too, if I don't drive like I usually do.
I have gone 300+ miles on a tank, but I didn't get into boost, and it was all boring driving lol

Well I'm just gonna go take my 90 whp and go get good gas mileage while buying some beer so I can forget that my audi is still in 200 pieces!

Averaged 24MPG in 6th gear with a 486RWHP tune on a 4.4L Northstar (as long as I stay out of the boost ;) )

I've got a Miata (two of them actually) so my answer to this is "way too many." My older Miata has the 5-speed and in 5th you're turning about 3700 RPM at 71 MPH for about 3100 revs per mile. The new one has a 6-speed and I was hoping it would have a longer top gear so the engine wouldn't have to go so fast at highway speeds, but it is hardly any better. You get a real low 1st gear and fun close ratios between 1st and 6th, which is probably very handy on a road-racing course, but you still don't get a low-revs/no torque cruising gear for the interstate. Sorry about the crappy pic (complete w/check engine light!) but I was busy drivin man.

about the same with me but i cruise at 75

I get around 1100-1300 at 65-70 MPH in 6th gear. This is why we like V8s.

My BMW E60 545 turns at 2500 at an indicated 75 M.P.H., but I think the speedo is a little optimistic.

Ooooh, just the thread for me. My speedo's been broke since I've had my 9000. :D
Doesn't bother me, I get my speed from the revs.
Summer setup, 16" wheels, 205/55/16 (not sure on 55).
3rd gear: 40kph @a hair under 1500 where the green bit starts.
3rd gear: 50kph @1750
3rd gear: 60kph @2000
4th gear: 60kph @17504th gear: 70kph @2000
5th gear: 90kph @2000 (56mph)
5th gear: 110kph @ 2500 (68mph)
5th gear: 130kph @ 3000 (81mph)

My 1991 Audi 80 quattro 5-speed with a 2.3l I5 is generally at 3k RPM at 65 and at 3,300 at 70. I generally get in the high 20's for highway MPG, which ain't bad for a 22-yr old AWD sedan with close to 250,000 miles on the clock.
The gearing is pretty balanced. Super short 1st and 2nd gears, versatile 3rd gear, plenty of torque in 4th for the twistier back roads. 5th gear is almost negligable compared to 4th; it's only about a 500rpm difference, with considerably less torque. There's been a couple times where I've driven miles in 4th on the highway without realizing it, haha.
Also, I'm running +1 Ronal R8's with a 205/50/15 tire, which is the properly adjusted diameter according to the manufacturer guide on the inside of the trunk. My speedo is pretty accurate- maybe 1mph off, if that.
