Think about it! IMSA could slowly drive up the costs and free up the restrictions for DP each year, and make all the teams that can't afford DP go to P2. Because the new DPs will be more along the lines CAN-AM cars, they won't last an endurance race, so when one of the four endurance races during the TUSC season come along P1 will run for the DPs.
I know what your thinking; why just not run P1? Well, unlike P1 there will be no endurance races (unlike WEC), as the max time the cars will be running is 3 hours. Plus, any non safety restrictions will be gone, and there will be limits for budgets and testing (as to stop Red Bull esc spending). Everyone will love it (except for all the teams that had to leave DP).

Deregulate the HP limits and you'll have Can Am for sure. I'd love to see Ford and GM battle it out with big biturbo V6's.
