Yatabe was a 5km banked oval built for highspeed testing in what is now Tsukuba city. Demolished in 2005, unfortunately.

While it's sad to see a legendary track to be demolished because of urbanization overgrown with weeds, at least it gave us engine porn like this that would have never been matched by any modern car. The 2000GT speed trials were also held here.

"This video does not exist."
I haz a big sad.
Funny because it was one of my sim racing buddies that read about Yatabe in the description of the 2000GT in GT5 that lead him to post about it on our forum, which lead me to post it here.

Parallel with the RC car world - there's a world-famous indoor RC racing facility called Yatabe Arena, also in Tsukuba City.
