I'll agree.
There's a Linc dealer across the way from the BMW dealership I work at and they get little to no business compared to Caddy down the road.

Lincoln needs a CTS badly if it hopes to survive. Even if the 1st gen cts wasn't the best car, it was leaps and bounds ahead of any other caddy, then gen 2 rolled around and it was pretty serious stuff, now gen 3 is considered the best car in its class by many. It takes time, but Lincoln has to start sometime.

I'd probably take a new CTS-V over the new M3. And that's coming from someone who works at a BMW dealership and has only owned BMWs.

The 3rd gen as of yet speculative m5 sized CTS-V, or the current tweener size CTS-V?

Current CTS-V, I'd rather have an F10 M5 over a CTS-V of any generation.
Actually, forget it, I'd take a CTS-V wagon with an LS in it over pretty much any car. The LS platform has way too much room for more power.

I'unno, I can't see Cadillac building something akin to Lexus/Infiniti in terms of build quality, prestige, etc.
The best they have for a full-size was the STS - which is dead.
On terms of Lincoln being a competitor? Maybe.

Duh, Mercury/Buick and Lincoln/Cadillac but since Cadillac has become the performance sport brand of GM, Lincoln no longer competes in the same class.

The CTS v-sport and GS F are pretty much tied for the best mid sized luxury sports sedans right now, all the reviews are calling both clear wins over BMW 5 series, Audi 6 series and Merc E-class. The Infiniti's are nice, but they aren't in the same league as these new caddy's

Mercury is gone, Ford only has Lincoln to carry the weight of both images. Jack of all trades, master of none.

The problem I find with the Caddy would be that atmosphere of luxury you find even in a mid-size. I can't see anyone calling it the equivalent to a Merc E-Class or a 5-series from BMW.

Perceptions are changing, and some people will never change, but its the better car whether people want to see it as such or not. I think people are starting to wake up to the, admittedly foreign, concept of a world beating American car.

To be honest, I think that if Lincoln can't turn their image around, they will be culled in less than 8 years. They have slipped by on history for the last 30-35 years, and unless something drastic happens, no one will remember seeing a big powerful Lincoln go by and get nostalgic for the marque. They either need to go way upscale (which would be very tough to do with the levels of sophistication on the market today) or come out with a Lincoln Veyron. Something so over the top impractical and fast that it just lines people up at the showroom windows. Even just bringing back something iconic, like the suicide door convertibles, would help to re-establish themselves and generate the revenue needed to stay alive. Then they can start building a new Lincoln, fit for the future.

XTS is definitely large sedan. ATS = 3er/A4, CTS = 5er/A6, XTS = 7er/A8.

I'd have to agree.
These are Lincolns:
This is not:
Cadillac is light years ahead at this point.
