What's the best looking fake hood scoop-extractor-louver-nonfunctional hood item, f rom factory?
I oddly like the Tacoma with a scoop, at least I like it better than no scoop.

Hands down.

Trick question: none. Fake scoops always look bad.

I hear they perform even worse

Well I can tell you from my experience that off-roading in a Tacoma with the fake hood scoop is way more frustrating than without, stupid thing blocks your forward view way more than you would think, and it adds noise. For some reason its a popular addition though.

'61 (Futura) through '63 Falcon.

O RLY?

Really. Just because a car is classic and beautiful doesn't mean it makes its fake parts acceptable.

I think the scoop on the big brother Thunderbird was also non-functional.

Well. you said "looks bad" vs. "is acceptable". I posit that it's possible to look good and be unacceptable.
That's why I'm going to open up the scoop on my '63. TRUTH IN ADVERTISING, YO.

That's a win right there. Truth is what its all about; if there is a reason for it, it could look like a defecating duck and I wouldn't care.

But the engine's not even under there...

Maybe on the 05-11 model. I wheel a 12 TRD sport, it's not too obtrusive. You are correct that visibility is better without. But SKEWP.

aero, just like on the C7 and 2014 Camaros, it reduces front end lift

I tried a 12 and my friends 13, the scoop was definitely a detraction. The bigger question is...why have it? fake hood scoops are as classy as stick on portholes or fake brake calipers
NOTE: I have no problems with the fact that its unavoidable to own a fake scoop car if you want a certain model, but some people go out of their way to get it on cars models that don't.

I'm probably not going to have a radiator in the front (fenders: weight balance shenanigans, oddly positioned engine), so the immediate need for a scoop is somewhat abated, but I have the scoop contour running back to where the stacks'll be, so I might as well do some laminar flow-inducing air pull over the top of the engine compartment. Still waffling over whether I'll do an AC condensor up front, which'd be worth avoiding.

And many others too.

If its fake, I agree 100%

Isn't that like asking for the best sexual disease?
Of course, if it's a hole, I consider it functional to some degree.

Sometimes when you find yourself in Bolivia with a carburetted LR with broken fan blades from bamboo, you have to make your own holes.

I got the Sport cause I don't like chrome at all and the color matched parts are nice, but the scoop is just a thing you gotta warm up to. Honestly, you're right, it does absolutely nothing, but that's why I love it. Sometimes I like to pretend I'm driving a D4D Hilux, haha.
Classiness is subjective. I think the hood scoop just makes driving the truck more fun, carefree. Life shouldn't be business 100% of the time and my truck reminds me of that.

fair point, can't take it too seriously. For me personally, I would see that everyday and curse somebody for not at least making it an extractor, but that's me. I drove a turbo Subaru with a real hood scoop and I hated it but tolerated it because I knew it at least had a point. Maybe I just don't like hood scoops.

Oh it would be sweet if it did something, I'd love that.
Different strokes for different folks. I can respect your view man.

I'm not sure about the SRT Challenger but the R/T Classic has functional hood scoops. One of the main reasons I went with the R/T C, not sure I could have lived with myself driving around in a car with fake hood scoops.

66 GTO non functional.

Of course, if it's a hole, I consider it functional to some degree.
Things just took a turn for the rapey.
![]() 11/30/2013 at 00:14 |

Because it's not functional until it is?
![]() 11/30/2013 at 00:53 |

what are they functional for? from the looks of it they would just create positive pressure under the hood
![]() 11/30/2013 at 02:12 |

They are pretty basic, they just funnel cooler air towards the intake, and cool the engine a minuscule amount. There is a bit of a duct formed by the hood liner that moves the air from the hood intakes to the air intake and over the engine. Not sure about them creating positive pressure, maybe if the engine compartment was sealed, but it's pretty much wide open through the bottom.
I won't be with my car for another few weeks but I'll try to remember to take some pictures when I get home.

Let's not take things out of context here ;)
