According to owner, whom is a friend of mine, the car runs and drives. It needs the following to be registered here in Ontario: The O2 Sensor, and the Outer CV Boots.

I am thinking I will try to replace the O2 sensor myself, and get the mechanics to do the CV boots. Tires are near the end of their life, but still good.

As I said before, lots of kms (268K). NPOCP?? I think NP, this car, as is, is worth at least $400.

Edit: Here is the intial discussion.

You are really in what the hell money. I think if you fixed it up and made it look descent you could get $1,500 on a good day. Snap it up. Worst case scenario you sell it for scrap for $400

Almost anything that runs for $200 is NP. How much do you need to put into it and does it fit your needs? If you can put the work into it and have the car for less than you would normally pay... NP.

All told, with the taxes, and inspections that adds up to another hundred bucks. Plus then, about $1200 in repairs, but as I said, I am going to try to repair the oxygen sensor myself.

The O2 sensor should be cheap and I don't think you should have a problem with it. For $1200 total, take a look on Craigslist and see what else is out there. You may get a suitable car for her for less than that. If not, go for it. Let us know how it goes.

The maxima is a really easy car to work on! You should go for it yourself! Even if you have to buy some tools you may only end up investing another 200 or so and some time!

Kinja'd!!!

All 3 o2's are reachable just get the code checked here is a link to replacing the worst one (still easy). Forgot to mention the damn cv shaft boots (not so easy but doable)! Check this link for cv shaft replacement but if you can just replace the boot even easier.
