So... the guy in the blue shirt... is Doug?

But let's be honest. If we had to choose between the three, it'd be 'Upgrade Kinja.'

You have a lot to learn, Doug, the answer is Miata.
Always Miata.

There's no such thing as a Kinja upgrade. Only Kinja changes.

Porsche Managers earn about $80k a year. Now, Doug is not a stupid man. He probably has enough in savings to comfortably indulge in his automotive endeavors, however, the major incentive for him to abandon his current endeavors, or his free time and start working full-time for Gawker as a writer would probably require him to be making enough money that he deems it sufficient.
Since the average Gawker Media staff writer (source: http://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Gawker-… ) earns about 2/3rds that (or less) than what he was making before he left his job to work on his book and such, I doubt that Jalopnik could easily pull him.
That's not to say he can't be made a writer, and if he really wants to, sure, but the rational decision here would be for him to keep doing his own thing.

Haha, true, upgrade necessarily means improvements. All Kinja's done so far was find new and exciting ways to screw us over.

Are you in my head? Currently?
![]() 11/25/2013 at 18:13 |

YES, I AM POKING YOUR BRAIN.
But it was just a series of guesses. How right was I? I figure you're probably more successful on your own than working for Gawker would make you.

The main crux of you argument is right — I very much don't want to give up the autonomy I have now to write "for" anyone. I am happy Jalopnik gets my name out there, and more importantly I am forever indebted to Matt, Travis, Patrick, Raphael, and the rest of the crew for writing the stuff that actually brings people back, while I focus on two or three columns a week of my own choosing. It's one of the main reasons I haven't pushed Matt harder on this issue.
With that said, I've started to get more and more paying offers, so I'm not sure where I'll end up and when.

In my bed. Tomorrow. $100. Cash.

Oh, uh. Yeah. Not that kind of paying offer.

Matt seems a lot angrier than I would have guessed.

Wow wow wow easy there, cowboy, not that kind of offer.
I just wanted to buy your book.
